If you get a bit more shy around each other....just pop a random question like (What's the thing you most desire in the world...etc) Come up with something that you wouldn't normally talk about. Take interest in him.
But there is one other way if you're a gutsy chick -
When you two are alone and you're feeling shy just give him a playful kiss on the lips (or the cheek if you want to keep it on the low) and then giggle a bit and start talking about a wonderful dream or something....and act like nothings happened (But still talk). Am sure it'll break the ice ;)

say the first word that pops into your head, then see if a conversation arises from that...interesting things can happen this way...
