The Hadiths say she was 6 when Mohammad, then in his 50s, took Aisha to be his "wife". The Hadiths also say she was 9 when they ... ummm.... "did it".

Multiple Hadiths say the same thing. 6 @ marriage, 9 @ sex.

However...surprise surprise...Muslims (Mohammadeans) contradict the Hadiths and say...

"NO! She was 12!"
"NO! She was 13!"
"NO! She was 14!"
"NO! She was 15!"
"NO! She was 16!"
"NO! She was 18!"
"NO! She was 19!"

etc...

or "It's none of your business!"

"Who said Aisha is pre teen, if you understand Arabic , you clearly know she was 19."

Silly me...I don't know Arabic so clearly I have no idea what I am talking about. Brilliant reasoning. (NOT)

I guess I should "go learn more before I open my mouth" (lol)

I also guess this means ALL NUMERICAL REFERENCES in the Hadiths are to be considered unreliable as well?

Muhammad married Aisha when she was 6-years-old and consummated his marriage with her when she was 9. He was then, 54 years old.

Nobody really knows for certain how old Aisha was when she married Muhammad. At the time, it certainly was not unusual for women (Muslim, Christian, Jewish, and Pagan) to marry before puberty, but generally, they did wait until puberty before marriage was consemated.

The other thing to consider is that numbers at this time were not exactly used as they are today. When it was assumed to be known, sometimes the first number was missing. 6 could in fact be 16, 9 could in fact be 19. Laylat al-Qadr is a perfect example of this, where the number 21 is repeatedly stated as 1. The number 25 is repeatedly written as 5.

One reason to believe she was older than this is that we know that she was at least 15 years old during the Battle of Badr and Battle of Uhud, because the same texts which state that she was 6 and 9 state that she went to these and that nobody under the age of 15 was allowed to go. This would mean that she would have been a minimum of 13 at the time of marriage, so she probably was 16 and 19, rather than 6 and 9.

I have been answering the same type of questions like yours over a 100 times.

firstly - No hadith is 100% authentic, As a muslim my only Hadith is the Holy Quran, The Hadith is a mere interpretation of what is in the Quran & of what the Prophet (saw) said or did but since its written & interpreted by men - we donot consider its contents 100% correct.

Many Hadiths mis-inform people because they misunderstood certian things. A Hadith can be a very confusing piece of information if it is not correctly interpreted.
But we need to remember Hadiths are not 100% authentic.

The Prophet (saw) married Ayesha(ra) when she was between the ages 15 - 20 , This information was discovered by historians. The Prophet (saw) didnot marry Ayesha (ra) when she was 6 or 8 or 9, So the information you have or the hadiths you have read are misinterpreted.

CJ - Which historical facts are you reading - because the true historical facts have proved that she was between 15-20 when she married the Holy Prophet (saw). Please re-check your Historical facts.

Already, when Aisha was about 4-5 years old Muhammad started dreaming of a union with her[a]. When she was 6, Muhammad asked Abu Bakr, Aisha's father, for her hand. Abu Bakr thought it was improper, because, as he said "I am your brother"; Muhammad brushed aside Abu Bakr's reservation by saying that it was perfectly lawful for him to marry Aisha[b]. So, Aisha was bethroted to Muhammad, and 3 years later, i.e. when Aisha was 9, the marriage was consumed.[c] And Muhammad was 53 then. The 3 year waiting period probably had to do with the fact that at that time Aisha had contracted some disease, whereby she, temporarily lost her hair. Aisha was then socially and psychologically still a child as is evidenced by the fact that she was still given to her toys, she was unaware of what was happening around her, and her playmates behave as would the children at present times[d]. Aisha became Muhammad's favourite wife. And the sexuality in the relationship was predominant[e]. Later, Aisha was to be called the "mother of believers

One question. What do your'll have to say about Cane and Abel (Children of Adam (PBUH)) who married their Sisters???
Everything depends on time, place, circumstance. Take off your blinkers and look at the truth.
Even if they married when she was 9 (not sure), at that time it the Norm. It was a legal binding Union.
Remember he (PBUH) was never promiscuos, nor even had any dirty, flirtatious, sexual connotational words come out of his Mouth. Which cant be said of many reading this.
So why try sooo hard to look for faults when there is none.

According to hadith in Bukhari and Muslim, Aisha is said to have joined Muhammad on the raid that culminated in the Battle of Badr, in 624 CE[24] and then in 625 CE in the Battle of Uhud.[25] As no one below the age of fifteen was allowed to accompany raiding parties,[26][27] Aisha should have been at least fifteen in 624 CE and thus at least thirteen when she was married following the Hijra in 622 CE.
Ibn Hisham's recension of Ibn Ishaq's Sirat Rashul Allah, the earliest surviving biography of Muhammad, records Aisha as having converted to Islam before Umar ibn al-Khattab, during the first few years of Islam around 610 CE. In order to accept Islam she must have been walking and talking, hence at least three years of age, which would make her at least fifteen in 622 CE.[28]
Tabari reports that Abu Bakr wished to spare Aisha the discomforts of a journey to Ethiopia soon after 615 CE, and tried to bring forward her marriage to Mut`im ibn `Uday's son. Mut`am refused because Abu Bakr had converted to Islam, but if Aisha was already of marriageable age in 615 CE, she must have been older than nine in 622 CE.[29][4](p.91)
Tabari also reports that Abu Bakr's four children were all born during the Jahiliyyah,[30] the pre Islamic period, which is said to have ended in 610 CE, making Aisha at least twelve in 622 CE when Aisha started living with Muhammad.
Aisha is reported to have said that at the time Surah Al-Qamar, the 54th chapter of the Qur'an , was revealed, "I was a young girl".[31] The 54th Surah of the Qur'an was revealed nine years before Hijrah.[32] According to this tradition, Aisha had not only been born before the revelation of the referred Surah, but was actually a young girl, not even only an infant at that time. So if this age is assumed to be 7 to 14 years then her age at the time of marriage would be 16 to 23.
According to almost all the historians, Asma bint Abu Bakr, the elder sister of Aisha, was ten years older than Aisha.[33][34] Asma is reported to die in the 73 AH, when she was 100 years old.[35][36] Now, obviously if Asma was 100 years old in the 73 AH, she should have been 27 or 28 years old at the time of Migration to Medina (1 AH). If Asma was 27 or 28 years old at that time, Aisha should have been 17 or 18 years old at the same time. Thus, Aisha - if she got married in 1 AH or 2 AH - was between 18 to 20 years old at the time of her marriage.

The thought of an old man becoming aroused by a child is one of the most disturbing thoughts that makes us cringe as it reminds us of pedophilia and the most despicable people. It is difficult to accept that the Holy Prophet married Aisha when she was 6-years-old and consummated his marriage with her when she was 9. He was then, 54 years old.
