Just to give you the muslims point of view, it is written in the Qu'ran that when Satan decided to be againts God, the other angels had expected the Almighty God to wipe him out of existence just like that, but then God let it be and said:
"I know something you don't know."
That's it.

God gives human beings free will, therefore if someone chooses to do evil, the evil is then there. God has not yet gotten rid of satan, it is not the end of the world yet and so God is still letting people choose who they want to serve. If you do not serve God you are automatically in Satan's hands. If you are a child of God ( accepted Jesus Christ into your life as your personal savoir, repented of your sins, meaning to ask forgiveness and turn away from sins, and are following Jesus Christ to the best of your ability and have a personal relationship with him) then God is able to keep you from all evil. So if someone on earth is against you they really can't be because God is for you. They will pay the consequences weather you see the results or not. But like I said God will not go against someone's free will. So because it is easier to do evil most people will. There is a time comming that there will be no more evil. This is the day that Satan is going to be chained for a thousand years and there will be peace on earth for 1000 years while Christ reigns as king. Later those who belong in hell will be in hell and a new heaven is going to be created and from what I understand it is going to be the earth that will be recreated, for the third time. Second time was just fixing it from satan's original destruction. You would have to ask someone who knows this exact subject a little better if you want details about that. Hope this answers your question and isn't too confusing. Sorry if it is. I will try to explain better then.

"Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?" -- unknown
For your knowledge, this was the Greek philosopher Epicurus.

God is willing and able to prevent evil. It's called Heaven. Eternal life in perfect, sinless, painless, war less, crime less, no illness, no old age, no health problems.....no problems at all Evil aka sin came into the world when Adam and Eve decided to reject Gods way and do things their way. He gave them EVERYTHING but one thing He told them not to do, is the very thing they did. He told them what the consequences would be, but they didn't listen. We too know right from wrong. But do we always do what's right? No. We do the wrong things anyway. Watch the news. Are people killing?Lying? Stealing?. Yes. Often, and every day. God is letting Satan tempt people right now. He's giving people the understand of good/bad, right/wrong, He, not wanting to force us to do things, not wanting to take free will away from us, He permits temptation. We have the option to sin or refrain from sin. Satan will not have this ability forever. His day is coming. Satan will have no part of Heaven. Jesus gives us the way of forgiveness and eternal life in Heaven. It's up to us to accept it and live accordingly.

He is both able and willing but He gave us all freedom of choice and to impose anything different would make him a bully. He wants us to choose to come to Him for all the right and good reasons even if some of it is fear. Do we not fear punishmentr from any authority and that is why we either obey our parents or the laws of the land. I know I do as i do not want to go to jail so I do not commit a crime. I fear the judicial punishment. Just as in some ways I fear the punishment the Lord can bring down on me if I do not belong to Him and believe in Him. So God is all He says He is and alot more.

Evil and good are both sides of a same coin. you can not have a one sided coin. for the creation, darkness and light are both a necessity. God is benevolent, omnipotent and all. He is pure love. No form of hatred can exist him. All this is a play of god only.See evil as a necessity for cleansing the mind of people who are good. Don't you feel we need the warmth of the sun as well as the coolness of moon to live. Life will become interesting only in alternating situations. Otherwise life will be a drab.

Everyone has problems, even God. He's unable to get the religions to agree on God and He sees all of the hungry and starving people in this World but has lost the ability to produce manna. I think that the religions should lighten up and give Him a break.

gee.. i wish i knew of a poetic way to say this -
God is both able and willing to prevent, destroy evil.
prophecy shows that a time is coming when evil will no more be on the earth.

well, here's what I've got to say...over 90% of evil exists due to human greed etc. right? and why is this so? because God has given us free will..He has shown us which path is good and which one bad and He told us to choose.so unless we want to be some sort of puppets on strings, i don't see how else is He supposed to stop evil?I mean, can you imagine, every time a kid puts his hand in the cookie jar without mommy's knowledge, what would happen? He has told us what the consequences of choosing each path would be, and we can see the wisdom of certain people right here on this site...

God is able to prevent evil and willing, but you have to understand the greater scope of God's plan...which no one could ever do. He uses things that might seem horrible to save us

So, because man chooses to act in evil ways and God honors His word to allow man free will it must mean God does not exist. That's circular reasoning. I know people don't want to hear about free will because it makes them responsible for much of what they want to blame on God or allows them to deny God but the truth is it's man's free will that creates the problems we face. God desires for us to follow His lead and choose those things that would make our lives better but humans think they are some much smarter and capable of doing it all themselves.
