First, before you set your heart on curtains, please check your city, county...website for energy rebates. Between the city and county, I got my window covers for less than half-price. Oh yeah, I'm saving money on my utility bill, too.
Not sure how the color will look? Go to your favorite retailer that has those little free cards with paint samples. When in doubt---Go with the color-flow.
I have three rooms of light green walls. Each room has a different color of window "covering." Also a different type of covering due to how the sun shines through the windows.
There are burgundy vertical blinds in the master bedroom, because it helped the room stay dark, as needed, and it matches the accessories of nearby rooms. The vertical blinds allow me to be in alignment with the window/door being open, as well as, a street light that would haunt me in the wee hours of the morning.
The living room has tan "cone" pull-down blinds. They look great, and are great for saving energy, but I should have chosen a different location for the television.. The pull-down blinds block the sun that sneaks over my neighbor's roof.
Cream colored vertical blinds are in the computer room. So far, so good. This time, the sun is not so much an issue. It is the dogs. They have to be able to negotiate their view, as I need to keep the computer screen to my personal preference.
