Despite what modern medicine will try to tell you (they seem to be conspiring with American school systems to put the majority of our children on psychotropic drugs before they have a chance), many kinds of hyperactivity can be related to nutritional imbalances and food allergies.
I would suggest you read, read, read. Do searches with hyperactivity + nutrition + diet. Go to Amazon.com - you will find several relevant books using those words in the search. One book that looks like it could be very helpful: Stop ADHD, ADD, ODD, Hyperactivity: A Drugless Guide to Optimal Family Health by Robert DeMaria.
Paying attention to the foods, additives, manufacturing processes (such as bleaching flour & rice) & preservatives that bring on hyperactive reactions will help & the sooner your son gets used to healthier eating habits, it will be easier to deal with in the long run. There are so many dietary changes that must be made in order to effectively deal with it, but it will be worth your time, money & trouble.
My brother suffered badly with hyperactivity also & he was also preyed upon by schools to be put on Ritalin or other mind-controlling drugs. The drugs were forced on him & I believe when society forces kids on drugs, it is only going to lead to drug use that goes on into adulthood.
I found a very helpful book for my mother a long time ago that dealt with this exact subject. It had many recipes and ideas & it made a lot more sense than having my brother take drugs that made him feel so not himself that he would fake taking pills just so he wouldn't have to take them.
As a matter of fact, I've known more than one child prescribed meds for ADHD, ADD, ODD & Hyperactivity who have pretended to take their pills, lying about it because the pills made them feel so un-natural. Good diet & nutrition are SO much better of an answer.
If you need to, get the book titles from the Internet at Amazon & then go to the public library where you don't have to buy the books.

If you are talking about needing help for his medical needs you should go to your local Medicaid office and see about applying for Medically Needy Medicaid so he can get the Medical treatment he needs. If he does have a severe form of ADHD, depending on the household income, he may qualify for SSDI and that would help with Medical bills and other needs. If you don't know where to go for this talk to his teacher. I would talk to his teacher anyway, they can lead you in the right direction for whatever you and your son need. I wish you and him the best.

have you tried natural homeopathic products or putting him in a specific diet??? I changed my son's milk and wheat products, as well as homeopathic products, we saw a few results within a few days. There is a book called "the out of sync child" and also the "the out of sync child has fun" that included some helpful activities to help with some of the irritability, stress, cognitive, and all other type of condition that a child with needs experiences.
Good luck and dont give up!!!

CHANGE HIS DIET TODAY!!
buy organic
stay away from fast food!!
high fructose in drinks -READ THE LABELS
watch the dairy-wheat-etc.
take the stress out of his life. YES children FEEL stress!
spend outdoor time w/ your child. Go to the country..visit a farm...see some good old fashioned animals! Not this made up Anime-Digi crap that's on t.v.
Find out what's going on at school. He could be eating something from the cafeteria that's setting him off.
If u r packing that LUNCHABLES crap then it's your fault!
Prepare meals together. Make him feel involved in decision making. If you don't work on this today..puberty will hit soon and he will be out of control.

What kind of help do you need? If you have been to a doctor with him; ask the doctor where you can get the help that you need. He should have a list of resources. If this is an emergency call 911. Is your son on medication?
