I agree.
Not wishing to take away from any childhood behavioural tendencies as I know very little about them but I think medics Can sometimes rush to label people these days.
To label a young child mentally ill and prescribe lots of drugs isn't good I feel.
I personally believe there is too lax an attitude, its so easy to prescribe drugs for a child rather than investigate the underlying causes of their perceived misbehaviour.

I agree with you, but in a way you have to put yourself in the moms shoes. I don't know from experience, but when I watch these talk shows about kids out of control hitting and trying to kill or burn family members, I think about what I might do! It's hard to say that after everything, you wouldn't atleast TRY medicine... I dunno.... especially if you were in fear!
Years and years ago they didn't have medicine, or all these fancy names for disorders,(which btw.. disorders where invented by insurance companys so they could label them for claims,THUS their making more money because people have a new reason to go to the doctor!) but I think that over time, as people have evolved( and so has the world).. something is different in people, and maybe we do, in some cases, need the help of low dose meds in serious situations. I think that you should have to atleast be 12 or so. Little kids should NOT be on drugs because thats just the way that young kids act intill they LEARN different.
Also, kids are raised different then they were in say the 50's. You have to realize that it has an effect of a childs behavior ,and that's the reason that maybe this whole drug 'fad' started...It's just my opinion :)

Hard to say, but from personal experience, I wish I would have had the meds I have now back when I was 15.
There are some tell tail signs where it is obvious that teens need help (meds and therapy). Any kids taking meds must be monitored closely because there have been indications that some antidepressants can actually aggrivate depression.

well now some of those kids may have had bipolar, manic depressive, and the only why they would even have a change to live an normal life was to be taking their medication daily so they did not go off. There are certain disorders that the child may need to take medication for rest of their life. Not all but some, or it would dangerous not only for the child but for the public too.

I don't think we need to make any more micro-managing laws. More laws like this equal less freedom, and we can't keep making laws to rule over every aspect of human decision making. I think that the decision to use or not use pills should be with the kid, and his parents.

I have to agree with you that children should only be medicated if they are severely diagnosed . my father tried to put me in a mental institute when I was 12 saying I was incapable of looking after my self but that was untrue . it was because he was afraid of people finding out he was sexually assaulting me . my mother came to the rescue and stop it

I agree with you that people get meds needlessly. I think people should just try to use less medications and try to be live like how people did before so many meds came along unless they are dying or need it for disease and need it then they sholdnt take it otherwise.

I believe that most ( not all ) kids that are put on meds; simply need rigid discipline.
99% of those; don't know how to mind, won't do what they're told, and don't know the meaning of the words, respect, manners and no.

I like Cosby's response to this...
"In my day you didn't have ADD or ADHD. You were just dumb."
And to answer your question... children should not be on meds, unless they're autistic or bipolar. But, ritalin, aderol, and the like... People are trying to "deyouth" the young, and it's never worked. Little boys have never stayed in their seat and done their homework... though it may be worse than it was...
