If you are not dieting, yes.
You are turning fat into energy and increasing your muscle mass.
If you want to lose weight, reduce your calorie intake or increase your exercise routine.
It is doubtful you are even burning off a pound a day and you are eating more than two. You need to do the opposite. You should burn off three pounds and eat two pounds. This way you lose a pound a day.
And cut out the weights, It is too soon for that. Do some aerobics instead, maybe stair climbing.

Your body is changing. It's not used to working out and it's storing water among ather things to promote heathy function. You are gaining some muscle mass as well. Since it weighs six times more than fat it won't take much to tip the scale upward. Don't be alarmed by it. There are many ways to work out- to gain mass, lose mass etc. Check with a personal trainer or consult a reputable source on-line for an exercise routine that will fit what it is that you are trying to accomplish.
I've recently (within the last six months) joined a gym after 10 years away from it. I too gained weight for the first 3 months. What I also noticed was that even though I was gaining weight, i was losing pants sizes.

Congrats on taking steps toward fitness.
You may have heard that muscle weighs more than fat, this is true.
Also if you are eating more as a result of the increased activity you may add weight, however this will be temporary. As your body adapts to a more active lifestyle, your metabolism will speed up and fat will burn off more quickly. It is important to ensure that you are exercising at a good level of aerobic activity (increased heart rate) otherwise you run the risk of just adding muscle.

Maybe it's because of your muscles are changing so you look more muscular than you were before. I felt like I'd gained weights when I started to work out, too. But after all your fats change to muscles, you'll look great and feel better about yourself.
Keep working out and eat more protein if you can.
Good luck!! =)

Yes it is normal. Also your appetite may increase noticeably especially if you do weight training. Over time this should level off and you should lose weight.

I believe that at the 1st stage of working out.. your body's adrenaline kicks up at high level...as you continue to work out more it gradually slows down adrenaline and speeds up matabolism...so don't freak out just yet unless you feel as if your getting bigger in the range of about 3-6 weeks.

Muscle weighs more than fat, so that may be the weight you're gaining.
