You can't "know" that you have eternal Life, at least not until you have shed the body and discovered that you still have consciousness without it.
This has happened to me twice, so I am personally convinced, but I can only speak from my understanding of that experience, and that may have been a dream.
Believing, on the other hand, requires no such 'proof'.

The Bible says the soul dies. The doctrine of an eternal soul is not in the Bible anywhere. Instead, the resurrection is taught in the Bible.

all souls are eternal, reguardless of belief system. That is what I truly feel to be true.
hmmm since it seems that I have been defending Atheists a lot lately, lets see if I could come up with a psuedo-scientic-ish sounding answer.
If your soul is nothing more than a finite wave of energy with a unqiue pattern and we follow the simple theory of conservation of energy... than yes, your soul is eternal.
pretty sure the "ashes to ashes, dust to dust part" falls under conservation of mass though.... hmmmm.

I guess you can't know for certain (in a scientific proof sort of way). But you can hope that the choices you make in this life actually matter and will mean something when we are gone.

You can't. Do you know what a soul is? Do you know what role the soul plays? Therefore, how do you know you even have this so called soul thing?

I believe normal human beings have their soul because some dead person unexpectedly appear in my dreams. It says that the dead persons have their soul come into my dreams.
