I have a soft spot for De La Hoya, what with me being of Latin decent and all. I hope he pulls it out but Mayweather is a defensive genious. What do you guys think?

De La Hoya!

Mayweather
Positives: Mayweather is fast, slick and instinctively evasive. He's hard to hit and is the best shoulder blocker in the business (he's known for using shoulders defensively). He also has great stamina and seems to become more energetic as the fight progresses.

Negatives: I notice that as he goes up in weight, he seems to be losing punching power. This is something he'll definetely need against the bigger De la hoya.

De la Hoya
Positives: He has the heart of a true champion and always finds that second wind when he needs it the most (i.e. Vs. Fernando Vargas, I don't know where in the hell all of that energy came from in the 11th round.)

Negatives: He's slower than he use to be but what boxer isn't??

I think both de la hoya and Mayweather have stamina to go the full 12 rounds. De la hoya is larger but it won't matter if he can never hit his elusive target.
Even if Mayweather can land I don't think he can hurt De la hoya.

In my opinion, Mayweather will win by Unanimous decision.

Mayweather's coming up in weight to fight a bigger man, but his speed should give Oscar trouble. Oscar has to land something big early or Floyd will run away with the decision. You have to figure Floyd doesn't have Shane Mosley's power, but his speed is equal to or better than Shane, and we saw the trouble Shane gave Oscar. You can bet Floyd watched those fights more than a couple times, and will try to do the same. Age may play a factor, the middle to late rounds will tell us if Oscar still has anything left of his pound for pound days. Floyd is pretty much at his peak and Oscar's is a few years past. I like both fighters and saw Oscar first on the under card of Toney/Jones. I caught his fights with Quartey & Whitaker as well which makes me a De La Hoya fan, so it's tough for the blogbaba to make this call.

Mayweather by decision.

De La Hoya! Come on, he's the smarter boxer. He may not be in his prime anymore but he can still pack a punch. Mayweather may have all the defensive skills, but even a defensive boxer makes mistakes. You forget that De La hoya had Mayweather Senior as his trainer for sometime. I think Freddy Roach may show him some new tricks. So De La Hoya till the end!

I agree with you, and De La Hoya is now much heavier and older than he was when he was in his prime. Also he can't be as hungry and motivated now as he was before he was so rich and famous. Mayweather on the other hand has always felt that he hasn't been paid his dues (which is correct, compared to De La Hoya). Money, business, Holliwood, and age are all reasons why De La Hoya will lose, not to mention how good Mayweather is.

There is no way the Golden Boy can win this fight... It will take him 8 rounds just to catch Floyd and we all know that he will run out of steam in the 9th just like he did with Trinidad, and Sugar Shane....

It seems like every big fight his excuse for slowing down in the last 4 rounds is because he thought he had the fight won. That is the dumbest thing I ever heard... even Purnell Whitaker beat him and was robbed.

I give De la Hoya credit, he always gives a good fight. but this time he is out of his league. Too old, too slow. and not strong enough.
For those who feel he will knockout Floyd must think about this... Who has De La Hoya knocked out without throwing 10 consecutive punches???? And do you REALLY think he will connect with arguably the fastest boxer out there pound for pound that many times??? I strongly doubt it!!!

There is only one way De La Hoya can win and that is by some bad judging and this can happen. It seems that if your a great black fighter and your and OK white fighter or now Latino fighter all you have to do is not even keep it close hut stay on your feet and they will get the decision. When a fight is this lopsided look out because I don,t care what kind of spin you put on it Mayweather is mile ahead of De La Hoya don,t get me wrong DeLa Hoya is a good fighter but he has never beaten a great fighter in his prime and he has lost to some fighters past their prime it,s going to be a big money fight only because of the hype but when the fist start fiying the cream will rise to the top Mayweather by KO inside of 10 rounds

First of all, even though Mayweather is at his very best at light welterweight he's still the favorite in this fight...and he should be. He's an amazing boxer.

DLH is a smart boxer but not as smart as Mayweather. Mayweather is the more skilled, faster and complete boxer and he's also in his prime.

DLH is definitely a great smart boxer and very experienced in big fights, they also fight at a weight that Mayweather never fought at before, so only time will tell if Floyd can handle the bigger guy (Oscar). I believe he can. DLH really needs to KO Floyd in order to win because I can't see him beat Floyd on points.

I think Floyd is just too good though and is going to win because he has more ways to win than does Oscar. Floyd by UD in a good fight.
