I need to know the actual ingredients or formulation of ivory shampoo so I can have my dermatologist concoct it for me. I've tried so many brands already and they don't seem to work as good as Ivory shampoo. Can I use the soap for my hair? Does it have the same ingredient only in solid form? Please advise. Proctor and Gamble never replied to my query.

Have you tried any baby shampoo?
Many are made with mild formulas and/or no dyes.

I'm very nearly allergic to everything. Oddly enough Ivory soap is one of the few that doesn't cause my skin to break out in hives.

Another poster suggested Johnson's. I'm terribly allergic to it. I assume it's the fragrance but don't know for certain.

I suggest using fragrance free products with no additives (too often "fragrance free" means it doesn't smell like, say, peaches, but does have some sort of fragrance added) which are easier to find at health food stores. I'm fine with things like lavender extract (which is in the product I use) but you may not be.

I do make my own face soap (my face tends to be more sensitive). At any health food store or, even, GNC, I can find a bar of soap made with olive oil. The only ingredients are olive oil and lye (to saponify the oil). I chop it up into little pieces and dissolve it, overnight, in warm water. I then add tea tree oil and vitamin E oil to it to help moisturize. The oils make it too oily for hair but if you just dissolve the chunks into water it would make a good shampoo. You will still probably need a conditioner after as it will, actually, clean your hair better than a traditional shampoo. This means it will wash away the natural oils and left over products that keep your hair moisturized.

I use, again, a lavender scented product for a conditioner, as well. If something similar causes too great a reaction I'd actually suggest a silicone based "personal lubricant." You'll find them at adult stores. They contain the same silicone conditioners as anything you'd buy for your hair but do not contain all the extras like fragrances or awapuhi oil (or whatever!). It's just the straight silicone products. Just use it sparingly. Even a pea sized amount can be enough for long hair.
