Dvds can hold more data. The average CD is about 700MB when the average DVD is around 4.4GB.

Thats not the only difference. Dvds can also have more then one layer that part of the reason they hold me.

The only important thing to remember is a Dvd holds more data.
And you must remember the compatibility issues too. Like DVDS will not work in cd drives or player but CDs should work in Dvd drives and players.

DVD - Digital Video Device, is also a secondary storage device meant for carrying Video files ranging from 4.27 GB.
