As a curly-haired diva, perms are always bad. They chemically alter hair structure, and uless you shave all your hair off, your hair will never be able to regain perfect health (no matter how many hot oil treatments you do!) Straightening, at worst, burns the hair. But it doesn't involve chemical alteration.

Regardless of the reason why you want to have your hair straightened, it is important that you start by understanding that you will be having strong chemicals applied to your hair and if not done right, permanent damage could be done.
Would highly recommend you go one-step further and have a professional do the straightening for you! Keep in mind that when hair has been chemically straightening, it typically requires special care to ensure the hair does not dry out.
When straighten the frizzy hair, most of the anti-frizz styling products out there work very well but not without the aid of good styling tools (meaning high heat) and the right brushes (soft but firm bristles). Yet even after all of that, if there is any humidity in the air, none of this will work to keep hair smooth.

If you really wanna spend a couple of 100's$ for perming your hair straight then go for it. My friend did it and it looks absolutely gorgeous and it last for about a year or so. If you wanna straighten your hair with a straigtning iron, i reccommend you use ceramic kinds, and buy some spray on treatments so your hair wont damage and dry out. Consult at a place where they sell hairproducts, they'll give you good advice. i wish i had nice wavy volumptious curly hair =(

Perming your hair straight is the best way.. BUT, make sure you do it in a salon- a process called re-bonding. yes, they will alter your hair shaft, chemically but, if the salon is good- they will treat it with a solution that will not damage your hair. I've been doing it for 5 years and my hair didnt get dry. My tips, 1. dont wash your hair after the treatment for 3 days, dont tie it, dont even put any clip or hairband. (this really works) 2. weekly treatments of deep conditioning masks. Hope this helps.

I used a perm one time to straight. You just put the solution on your hair and comb it really really straight. But my hair was wavy again in like a month. And I don't think perming every month would be good. I use a ceramic flat iron (Chi). I just make sure I use a protector like Biosilk of something like that. Hope I was of some help. XD

If you perm it, I'm guessing there will still be some curl because they use curlers; probably large ones. I chemically straighten it either at a salon or I buy the stuff at the grocery store. My hair's always been dry so I put Botanic Oil from Nexxus and you can't tell it's dry, I love it.

whatever you do DO NOT try a home-straightening kit. they make your hair stink and completely dry it out and ruin it. it took so many hot oil treatments to fix mine. and if you're looking for a product to make straightening less damagaing try herbal essences finishing spray. you spray it on before each section and it keeps moisture in so you don't end up with fried hair. also there's l'oreal iron tamer spritz.

i straighten mine everyday. it's sort of my time to relax and think about what i have to do during the day and stuff. i think daily is more damaging, i'm not sure.
