In war, you kill your enemy. People fight for different reasons. The times change, the people change, the places change, even the weapons change. But this fundamental principle never changes: You kill or you die.

You get desensitized to pulling the trigger. It's the only way any sane person's mind can cope with the trauma of inflicting death. Could it be the same for a nuclear bomb eventually? All it takes is a situation desperate enough for it to be used. After that doing it again becomes less of a sticking point.

And what about when we develop a weapon more powerful than nuclear bombs? Maybe some satellite capable of killing highly specific targets from space or something that could wipe out an entire continent? The reality is that every new weapon we make gets used at some point.

Hate, fear, desperation, anger. All of these could cause the end. When will war go too far? At what point does war simply become an act of mass murder disguised by politics? Why are we so damn stupid?

Sure why not.

The thing you said about the trauma of inflicting death and whatnot. It already has been the same for the nuclear bomb. Oppenheimer, the father of the bomb so to speak felt very guilty and tramatized about what his creation has done and could do.

It's not that simple to just drop a bomb on a situation we think needs it. Thats not "all it takes." You also have to think about retaliation, civilians etc.

Some people are starting to understand that a superweapon isn't always the solution to everything. After we kill a bunch of people and destroy a country, what then? What about the future? The guilt? The backlash from your own people? And wouldn't devolping a bigger badder weapon possibly bring about another cold war? Another weapons race?

Maybe I have too much faith in humanity, and you have too little, but people are people, and they won't just do these things without thinking at least a little more deeply into it.

I realize this is 9 years old but I must say the long winded essay is not accurate about why we are having so many terrorist attacks. It's a bit more complicated than the Doctor described. None the less I believe humanity will suffer until people come to understand that the true enemy is within. If you don't know this then you are ignorant of the truth. When you come to understand your own condition you may then see the cause of the fear driving the madness of our world. Fact is there is a lot of good in mankind. But we are fundamentally defective. By design I suppose. The best thing can happen to anyone is realize it. Once you become aware of this you then you may find hope. Hope that others will too. Truth

Personally I think humans are just full of themselves. Most likely we will become extinct soon. Certainly we have very little chance competing with how long we are dominant. The dinosaurs will win in that.

The interesting thing about this question is that you believe that war is what will destroy us, instead it will probably be more like our cars, technology, and our ability to put more and more people on this Earth. It is fun to realize that humanity will probably die off for the same reasons deer do.

First of all I personally don't think war, will ever disappear. Human beings have used violence since the dawn of time to enforce what they desire, believe in, or can justify. Any time a person is placed in a situation of duress it is natural to remove oneself(emotionally)from the situation. This is a built in self preservation technique designed to keep us in our present state of "sanity." Although it is an ugly act war is what creates peace. The only chance of eradicating the act, or threat of war, we would basically have to eliminate free thought view and act. This is however an unacceptable act, lest we become something more horrible in its stead. So this being said i would think humanity is probably :destined to follow the present path of violence, until the end of humanity, or time whichever comes first

You say mass murder disguised by politics, but I say by religion. If you look at those who are most in support of the war are the right-wing Christian conservatives, on the other side we have Radical Islam. Religious people love to fight wars because a) instability and division is a mechanism that allows their leaders to get rich--which then motivates them to propagate intolerance b) you feel God is on your side...so how can you be wrong and c) it fortells the apocolypse, the return of God or the fulfillment of some prophesy...and they will be damned to stand in the way of "God's perfect will". Look back through history and you will see a lot of wars and a lot of death based on religion.

If only they understood that God wouldn't like this behavior at all, no matter what flavor he may come in for you.

Probably true unless we can establish a intergalactic expeditionary force and discover aliens. Humanity joins together in the racism when it comes to aliens.

No, God is. But humanity is doing a good job so far, and people and the reasons for war in general, never change
