i wanted to have my sister answer the door and then come down the stairs looking all pretty and perfect for prom, but online sites said that you should be the first one he sees. i really wanted to do my grand entrance down the stairs... what do you think???

I love this type of etiquette question.
The basic rule of etiquette is to not make others uncomfortable.
Would your date be uncomfortable if he saw someone other than you first? I'm going to guess and say no.
Would members of your family be uncomfortable to answer the door and greet your date? I feel safe with another no answer.
Would it make you happy to make a grand entrance? Of course!
Would your date and family want you to be happy? I would hope!
So what do the online sites know? You haven't made anyone uncomfortable and everyone wants you to be happy - make your entrance!
If you have sisters who are much younger, and are feeling left out of the dress up, include them. Ask them to be flower girls. Have them put on a favorite dress and let them drop flower petals on the stairs before you walk down.

I did the Grand Entrance thing down the stairs.
That was 20 some odd years ago, but I still remember how much fun that was!
Do it the way YOU want, don't listen to those online sites.

I met my date at the prom cause I went with a group of female friends in one girl's mustang convertible. So....do whatever you want.

according to my etiquette book, if it's possible, you shouldn't be the one to answer the door. it makes you look to eager to see your date, when he should be eager to see YOU!
