I pay 795 a month for a 3 year old boy.
that's incredible...but I understand the insurance covers a large portion of that charge....
I would like to see it somewhere in the 300 to 400 a month range

From talking with other moms with children the same age as my son, it depends entirely on where you are.
Where I live, care for a 1 year old to I think 3 averages roughly 1000 a month in a family-based daycare and in a big center. Private is, of course, more expensive. There are no spots in daycares near me, near my work, or between the two (3 year waiting list!), so I pay another single mom three days a week (80/day) and a stay-at-home mom to two teenagers two days a week ($50 a day, her choice).
Fair? Well, yes. I wish it could be a lower percentage of my income, but I want the people who look after my sweetheart to be paid well enough that they're not living in hardship, after all. It's the most important job in the world, to me.

I pay $750 per month for an 18 month old. The cost goes down at 19 months but I got subsidy from the government so they pay $575 per month of the bill. Then at 19 months old they pay $500 per month.
I think that $500 per month is fair but it all breaks down to if your going to feed the children or if parents send food, the hours your availible, etc.
At my son's daycare they provide breakfast and lunch, I provide snacks and drinks, diaper, wipes.
If you offer subsidy then the parents pay less then $200 out of pocket as far as I know.

I have paid $65 for private care to $180 for daycare in a large center per week. Private care for $65 is really cheap, and I didn't mind the $180 because it included monthly programs like bowling, YWCA gymnastics, swimming, karate etc. Offering the extras means a lot to parents. A lot depends on the economic stability of your area. If most of your parents are minimum wage workers then $140 is outrageous, but if most of them are business executives then they might feel that is a bargain and be willing to pay even more. In addition infant care is usually more expensive because you need to give a lot more one on one care to an infant.

well, if you are suppling food diapers and other supplies, i would say 200 for toddlers in diapers.. and 150 for the other kids... if they bring it in you charge them 150 for toddlers in diapers and 100 for others,, you only let them drop them off for 10 hours a day, and if they are late tax them good girl..
