Lexapro is a third generation SSRI--similar to Paxil but with fewer side effects as it is more specific to the right neurotransmitters. Also, Welbutrin is an option for people who have sexual side effects from Paxil/Zoloft. Please discuss this with your MD after you research them on the internet. Also, the best is a combination of therapy AND medication, so that you will not have to rely on the meds indefinitely.

If you really want to get better, and not simply mask the symptoms you should talk to a naturopathic doctor and/or a nutritionist. There are ways to change your diet that can help you. Either something you are eating could be causing problems, or something that you are not eating. It could be a vitamin deficiency.
Herbal remedies for anxiety include passionflower, valerian, chamomile, St Johns Wort, and aromatherapy. There are also breathing techniques that have been shown to help. These are all completely free of side effects and could possibly help you to solve your problem, rather than find a drug that can help mask the symptoms as long as you stay on it.

I didn't notice any side effects when I took it- and I really only needed to take it when i felt the onset of a panic attack- it wasnt something i needed to take everyday - although for a few periods i was also taking lexapro. that's just my .02

Not a doctor, can only give u a suggestion. My sister suffers from panic attacks and has tolerated Ativan very well. Of course, how it would effect a male, I don`t know. Talk with ur doctor is the best advice I can give u.

The sexual side effects tend to go away once you take the meds for a time - they take a while for your body to get used to them.
Have a frank conversation with your doctor. After all, he took gross anatomy (dissection) and lived - he will live through a talk about sex life.

Many of them have the side effects you don't like. Sometimes an adjustment in the dosage does the trick but you need to tell the doctor about it.

There is not too many anxylotics (anti-anxiety) with few side effects. However there is one that does not have sexual side effects called Xanax (It makes you slightly horny instead of impotent) but it does have many other harmful side effects. Talk to your doctor first.

Please don't read too much about side effects. Read only the pamphlet that came with the meds and listen to whatever the doc says. Because people's reactions to meds are all different. Some are standard, like sexual side-effects in anti-depressants. But please don't read too much into "other people's" side effects. They won't necessarily, or likely, happen to you.

Brown paper bag. You breathe in and out of the bag so you intake some CO2 and the CO2 calms the panic or anxiety attacks.
