moose are not normally aggressive. the only time you have to be cautious is when a cow moose has a calf with her or in the rut (mating season) the cows will aggressively defend the bull and the territory. if you do get into a situation where you have one attack keep your eye on it because they move a lot faster than they look like they can. climb a tree if possible or hide under something. when they attack they rear-up on the hind legs and smash with the fronts. i watched a cow total a jeep when an unknowing guy parked between her and her calf. an aggressive moose won't follow you too far, they're just getting a safe distance between you and them.
i live in the British Columbia interior and i am around moose a lot. most of the time they are content to watch you walk by and keep feeding or they will move off slowly.

Like you, I have had countless moose encounters in Alaska and never met an aggressive moose. The experts say run. Just run . They aren't trying to eat you. You are just invading their space. Climbing a tree would get you a ramming in the back, since their head is much taller than you could out climb very quickly. Using bear spray would just confuse and enrage them. Using a gun will do the same plus cause a lot of paperwork with the troopers. In Anchorage someone gets mauled all most every winter. Moose charge when they are threatened or cornered. That's why it happens a lot in the winter. The snowbanks and deep snow put them walking down the ski trail, bike paths and sidewalks. Once they are on these they don't want to get off of them. One little secret weapon they have is their hind feet. They can kick in any direction. One time our dog was running one off of our property and got kicked from the side of the moose.

If at all possible, put something between yourself and the animal. A car, a tree, ...any obstruction. While not predatory, of course, Moose HAVE been known to charge, ram, and trample folks now and then. Generally if you see one, just give it plenty of room. They are most dangerous in the rutting season.

Hide in a cave where the moose and his antlers can't get you. But if you make alot of noise to let the moose know you are there and you don't get into its business, good chance it won't bug you, I think.

Try one of these options.
1. Get out your handy little Swiss army knife and hope it has a bible in it, cause you can kiss your butt good-bye.
2. Scold the moose making him feel small.
3. Pretend your a ninja and vanish into the background.
Seriously, Not much defense against an animal of that size and strength. IMO, keep your distance, make the animal aware of your presence without showing aggression.
