I currently take Luvox 300mgs and Klonopin 2 mgs daily for anxiety and OCD. Recently, my dad passed away, and depression set in on me==i couldnt even get out of bed. My doctor gave me samples of Provigil. It really helped me but my insurance will not cover it at all. My doc even talked to them but it didnt make a difference. Does anyone know of any alternatives i can try===how about Adderall XR?

yes new medications that are reallly new out, will not have a genic for 10 years. But your doctor can contact the people that make that medication, and there are a lot of people out there, getting their meds free from the people that make them , they are send to your mental health nurse, and she gives them to you , after the factors, send them to her, and they send them for one months worth at a time. I know a lot of people that are getting their med's this way, so talk to your doctor about that.

A search of Provigil suggests that it is not FDA approved for the condition you describe. Also for now it is very expensive and no generic substitutes seem to be available. This is why insurance will not cover it.

1)In February 2005, Health Canada, the counterpart agency similar to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), suspended the market authorization of Adderall XR®
there were 20 international reports of sudden death in patients taking either Adderall (sold in the United States but not in Canada) or Adderall XR (sold in Canada). These deaths were not associated with overdose, misuse, or abuse. Fourteen deaths occurred in children and six deaths in adults. There were 12 reports of stroke, Again this drug does not seem to be the right one for the symptoms you describe.
2)Which drugs help OCD
There are six drugs that have shown to be useful in good double-blind placebo controlled studies
The six drugs shown to be effective in such studies include: fluvoxamine (Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), sertraline (Zoloft), paroxetine (Paxil), citalopram (Celexa), and clomipramine (Anafranil). Anafranil has been around the longest and is the best studied throughout the world.
Discuss these websites with your doctor. Unless you have already tried these drugs and they do not help you they may be your best bet. Talk with your doctor. You describe depression with anxiety you did not say your OCD symptoms.

Hope this helps I know how it is to loose a parent and feel alone.

Perhaps ur insurance would cover the generic equal to Provigil, if thats the brand name. Some insurances will not pay for brand names if there is a generic equivalent, ur doctor should have known that unless he specifically wants u to have Provigil. Try again.

Contact the company that makes Provigil. Most big companies like that have some provision for making the drug available to people who cannot afford it.

Since he knows your insurance situations, see if you can get some more directly from your doctor. Doctors get samples for free from the pharmaceutical companies so he may be able to give you more. Otherwise, he can probably suggest a substitute to try.
