Honey, let me explain something about therapists and counselors.
I am not a psychologist yet but I've done extensive, extensive reading, studies and papers on bipolar and personality disorders. With all that stuff I've studied in my head, I can pick the bipolars out of a football stadium. And I haven't even graduated yet.
Also, my family has such a long history of mental illness I recognize it in an instant.
One day after a breakup with a bf I went to a therapist. I walked in and said hello. She knew I was bipolar within five minutes. I said to her, good job.
The other day I went to visit Graceland, where Elvis lived. I had a great time and at the end watched a little home movie about him and listening to him talk and his family talk about him, I said to my bf, "he's bipolar!" I never picked up on it.
I like to come here and read people's problems and see if I can pick out the bipolars and the personality disorders from their writings. Ok, I need to get a life I know.
The trained eye can spot things like a cop can tell if a perp is packing a gun. It's about experience and education.
If you still don't think that your counselor is giving you a fair shake, go to a regular MD. Your regular family doctor. Tell him your thoughts. He will scrip you to see a Psychiatrist. A psychiatrist is a diagnostician and can prescribe meds. A trained psychiatrist, with many years experience, will tell you the truth.
And because your mother had it, doesn't guarantee that you have it. My mother has severe allergies and I don't. We don't always get what our parents have.
Sorry this is so long. But have some faith in the trained eyes of the professionals. They see it every day, 10 times a day. They know what they're looking at. Good luck!!

Miss Wong is incorrect. Schizophrenia and Bipolar Disorder are genetic conditions, as evidenced by twin studies. Nonetheless, just because one family member suffers from a certain mental disorder, it does not necessarily mean that an offspring will inevitably succumb to the same disorder. However, that family member will have a propensity to develop the disorder.
Anyway, I am a psychological evaluator and there is no way somebody could diagnose you over the internet. You really must visit with a psychologist for a thorough evaluation.

My mother is paranoid schizophrenic. It can be passed down in families... but it takes genetics and a series of traumatic events in your life to trigger it. If you dont develope it by the time you are 30... its very very unlikely that you ever will.
With paranoid Schizophrenia you think that people are out to create havic on your life. My mother thinks that someone has altearer motives when someone walks by and says goodmorning or hi. You didnt mention what symptoms you are having to make you feel like this might be a problem though.
If you really are concerned... talk to the doctors again.

It sounds like you are having some emotional problems dealing with what you are seeing your mom go through. I was diagnosed with Bi-polar a few years back. All the medicine made it worse. I decided to pray and ask God to help me deal with my problems. Whenever I started to feel out of sorts I turned to the scriptures.I have been free of medicine I took since the age of 17 & I am 34 now. I don't think you are any of the things you listed! just try to calm down and maybe say a prayer or talk to your family physican if you have one.

would you like to know so if you are you can begin treatment with medication (you want help for this) or so you understand your reasons for the thoughts, feelings and actions you have?
nothing to be ashamed of if you have either, it would like being ashamed you have cancer. It's an illness. You educate yourself on each as sounds like your doing, bp is so close to so many things with the symptoms and there are no cures but things can help. medicine causes other things later on as you may have noticed from commercials, just seen one, that if youv'e been taking blank for bipolar or depression you may have developed blank. Essential oils are magnificant for any of these as well as any disorders in the body, emotionally, mental, physical, with no side effects and almost instant results from what ever mood your feeling that is neg or not right, just rub a drop on the temples and top of head and it will go to each cell, and your body will thank you, and you'll know it cause you will function great, no worries, a life saver! also we have control of our thoughts and our thoughts affect our emotions and you can change them in an instant by changing your thought from something good, to bad , there are no other thoughts, it's either in 1 catagory or the other, and no one chooses our thoughts, we have the privedge of being in control of that, so when you feel out of control or sad, or angry, notice what your thinking at that moment and ask self, what can i think to feel happy right now, and draw a picture to mind of something that has made you feel good. moments later your mind may wonder back to the neg thinking . SMILE!!!!!! instantly you'll get your body feeling better again, clapping is a great way to help ya smile and give you a boost of energy. your just changing your pattern of neg thinking quickly with simple technics but results of happiness and control and you did it in an instant!!! BE well, worry is like a rocking chair, thoughts going back and forth and going no where. the damage is stress which is wear and tear on your body, pray for your mom and don't worry as it will get you know where, think of your mom and smile, also being gratefeul is an automatic switch from neg to positive, we can all think and dwell on the bad, it's there, but so is the good, grateful your mom is alive with help with the heartache and great memories to past and to come, etc.

These disorders aren't genetic. A tendency is genetic but it isn't like whole families get it. You're worrying yourself to death. It's awful to watch someone with the issues your mother has but worrying only makes it worse. You need to talk to someone. See if you can talk to a doctor or a counselor about the disorders and your fears. It can only help.

This isn't the right place to get answers. You need to see a therapist who can use standard psychological tests to start to make a diagnosis.
