Most cats will sleep about 16 hours a day, and some even more than that. About three quarters of a cat's sleeping time is light sleep. The cat can awaken very quickly. This is a throw-back from the wild and genetically conditioned to enable the cat to react to danger in the blink of an eye. The remaining 25 per cent of a cat's sleeping pattern is deep sleep. This is where they do their dreaming. Their paws and faces may twitch during this type of sleep.
Why do they sleep so long? Again, this is genetically conditioned and is a throw back from the wild. Cats are hunters and expend a huge amount of energy when hunting. They need to conserve as much energy as possible in between hunting expeditions. Hence, thy sleep a lot - in order to conserve energy.

Cats just need to sleep more than dogs. Perhaps the cat doesn't want to compete with the dog because they have different methods of playing. Don't worry about the cat being mad, though. Kitty is just sleepy.

Cats basically sleep 16 hours a day. That leaves them enough time to eat, use their facilities and play a little while on their time. They are basically nocturnal by nature, so they run around the house like nutcases while you are asleep. You can wake your cat up to play with you for awhile and then it will just go back to sleep. They are rarely jealous.

In general, wild cats are very lazy and sluggish. Lions hunt every couple of days and then they basically sleep the rest of the time. I think it is just natural for a cat to sleep all the time.

cats like raccoons are nocturnal by nature. they are not mad or jealous. the only thing is my cat seems to have it all wrong she wont sleep more than 5 min at a time day or night. you arent likely to change the cats habit just try to spend time with the cat when it is awake.

There MAY be some jealousy there- but cats tend to be nocturnal animals...- up all night & asleep most of the day. If your cat wants attention- she'll find a way to get it, don't worry! Cats are alot like women; they want attention on THEIR terms- not yours! :)
