If a lady asks you if you like her dress and you really don't like it, is it kinder to tell a little white (black) lie and say, "Oh yes, it's lovely" or is it kinder to tell her the truth? Is it really kind to let the women walk around in a dress you think is ugly?

A lie is a lie no matter if it is little or not. Always tell the truth. But there are ways of telling the truth with kindness.

Little white lies are a necessary social convention. When you're introduced to somebody and he asks how you're doing most people say they're doing fine. This is not about deception, this is etiquette.

Lies are not necessarily bad, sometimes they're a positive good. Not all knowledge is for public consumption. Every person, company and state has legitimate secrets and protecting them with appropriate lies is acceptable and sometimes necessary.

If your wife asks if you've ever been unfaithful are you going to tell about that hooker in Nevada fifteen years ago? Telling her about that would be a sin.

I am a man.
I know nothing about dresses.

I do know that the only answer is that she looks beautiful. Unless you like cold shoulder for breakfast, lunch and dinner, forget about the dress. Never say it is good or bad. Only that she is beautiful..

If women really want an opinion on dressing up they ask other women.

Sometimes little white lies...even ones with little black hemlines, need to he told in the interest of feelings.

She might think that very ugly dress is beautuful.. to each his own. Ok, so the dress is ugly.

You can always couch the way you respond without coming out and saying the dress is hideous. Think before you speak...say something like, "Well I like the red one better". Or better yet try, "It;s not my favorite but you make any dress beautiful!"

Better that she look good in an ugly dress than very bad in a pretty but ill fitting dress.

Kinder to tell the truth. AND she will start to know what you like for her to wear. You don't have to say it in a rude way. Like, "I really loved the way you look when you wear............" /And describe what it is that you like about it. We aren't mind readers and do want to know what you think. We don't want to wear something that our guy thinks is ugly.

Would you want someone to lie to you about how you look? Or would you appreciate honesty? You don't have to be rude when you tell someone their appearance is not all it could be. Or, you could say something like, "I prefer a different style or color of purse, but if you like it, that's all that counts. After all, you're the one who's going to be using it." Honesty is always the best policy.

a lie is a lie ...use tact...and try to find something you like about it ...maybe the color or a print in it or something and focus on that....otherwise just say that it isnt to your taste ...and as long as you are not wearing it , it doesnt matter, Im sure there have been times for all of us that we have worn something that somebody else didnt like...but to each his own.....

If you cannot say something nice then don't say anything. But don't lie in a case like this. Everytime you lie it gets easier and easier until you wind up in big trouble for yourself.

So you would hurt the woman rather than go to Hell for telling a lie. I would lie.
