There aren't any 2 best really, it is up to the couple involved. I also don't think you should worry about seasons either, there are no hard and fast rules. We picked our favourite colours, have a think about what yours are. White is "traditional" but you are right, times have changed and you need to make your own traditions.

I'll have to go with your parents on this one...White (for the girl) and black(for the guys) are the 'it' colors (classic and clean). Just make sure not have everything blend together or a large amount of colors fighting for attentions. Remember the Bride is what everything else is there to compliment.

For a wedding dress or BM dress?
If you are talking about your wedding dress you could alway go with an ivory or off white. I also like the thought of a pale pink dress.
If you are talking about a BM dress - well that's up to you. I have always loved purple.

DO NOT GO Ivory for bride, in many many many cultures only unvirgin girls wear ivory. WHITE for your dress... the theme color must match the season, so if it'll be in the spring use baby pink or baby green, baby purple (EASTERN colors), if it's going to be in the summer, use light orange and lime green, for fall go with torquise, sky blue or rosered and for winter go with any shades of blue or silver.
Contact me for more wedding ideas and I will serve you for free since you seem to be very fashionable and sweet.

The two colors you choose will be the best for YOUR wedding. Your mother will have to realize that the day is YOURS and your fiance' and the major decisions should be decided by you and him.

do you mean the theme or your dress or the bridesmaids dresses?
i recently saw a girl get married in a really strong red gown, with the same colour bridesmaids dresses.. it looked a little odd to me but it was nice.
some colours i have seen look really good are a strong teal colour, yellow, and a kind of rose/pink/brown colour in a fabric that looked like it changed colour in the light.
