I'm getting her a gift, but I don't have much money. I also don't want to look like a cheapo, so what's the proper amount of money for a gift in this situation?

Also, any ideas for gifts for a girly-girl who is a friend but I don't really know her THAT well. (Don't know what kind of music she likes or if she likes to read, etc.)

Most people the buy graduation gifts buy them for someone that is planning to go to college. There are so many things that college kids need to start off at a new school. If she is planning on going to college, buy her a gift certificate to somewhere like Wal-mart, Bed Bath and Beyond or Pier1. That way she can buy stuff that she likes and needs.

Do people normally but graduation gifts for friends? I guess it also depends on how much older you are than the friend, but I associate graduation gifts with things given by family members/other adults to help the person in their next stage of life. Or maybe everyone does give gifts to each other, and I was just stingy.

I would recommend not more than $30.00 on a grad gift for your friend. If you don't want to look like a cheapo, don't give cash, buy a simple gift. Go to a store like Claire's and buy a nice necklace and earring set, perhaps add a silver ring. The high school crowd loves that store.

For a friend you don't know that well? $5.00 - $10.00 on cheap jewelry from a store like Claire's or a $10.00 gift certificate for a store like that. :-) All the best!

I like to give memory boxes from The Bombay Company. They are usually on sale for about 25$. Its a large mahogany box with velvet lining on bottom and it has a brass plate where you can take it to get engraved with her name. I keep my Senior mementos in mine like my tassel, graduation program, senior pics of my friends. Its a really nice special place for some memories!
