Im gonna go with the better fighter. I really have to say that Im really getting tired of hearing how a BJJ artists are the best. I seem to remember when BJJ was "the" art because of the Gracies. But now it seems to me that the fighter that can strike the hardest and fastest is winning in the MMA. Ground and pound is the name of the game in the MMA world. Taekwondo is about striking and Ill take a good striker anyday over a good grappler.

Anyone ever heard of Crocop Ive seen him destroy people with kicks to the head none the less.

Seeing as most Tae Kwon Do techniques focus on kicks and attacks from a distance and the BJJ fighter would fight close-range, I'd give the advantage to the BJJ Blue Belt. Blue Belt means that they have about 1-2 years of training under their belt, and seeing as training is more intense for BJJ, that also works in their favor.

As a quick side note, a black belt at my Shaolin Kempo Karate school started taking BJJ and was showing his new classmates some of his SKK techniques. They'd be able to flip/twist out of them and get the advantage on him. He was able to modify the techniques to work against them, but it's interesting to note the agility and skill of a BJJ fighter.

It depends on more than just the ranks of the individuals involved. If both trained in the U.S., and are equal in all other categories (speed, strenth, mass, flexability, etc. etc.) I would probably go with the blue belt in Jiu Jitsu, due to the higher level of focus on ground fighting in Jiu Jitsu.

dusty is correct that it depends on a lot of factors not just rank. However, if I had to pick one I'd always pick JuJitsu over TKD. TKD is a very predictable art and JuJitsu was designed specifically to defeat standing martial arts. I've never seen a TKD student beat a student from another art other then boxing.

Assuming that these two are purely BJJ and purely TKD...

I hate to say this cuz I absolutely hate these "BJJ blue belts can beat anybody" type of threads but the BJJ guy would dominate the TKD guy with ease... And no, it would not depend on the individuals.

What type of fight are we talking about? With rules? or a street fight? My guess would be the blue belt would win with tournament style rules, in a street fight however; it would be anyones game. It's hard to hold a closed guard with your eyes getting gouged, groin getting punched, etc, etc.

it depends on the pplz's experiance and techniques they've learned. I think the belt color requirements change for different martial arts.
