Is it loaded?
Have the fish or turtles been through a hunter safety course?
By chance do either fish or turtles have any reason to be angry with you?

If the answer to these three questions is NO we can precede on.

Ok time to get serious now.

You have 4 options from what I can see.

1- you could drag for it heavy line and very large treble hook which most bate shop do have in hopes of snagging it, you will need some weight on the hook to keep it in contact which could be achieved by sliding some 2 or 3 steel nuts over the shaft of the treble hook.
You could use a magnet and a float to mark its position to aid in recovery so as to drag only the productive area.

2- you could use a rope and a very strong magnet that you can get at most hardware stores.
In hopes of pulling it up.
You may have to use 2 or 3 magnets each with their own ropes in conjunction to free it from the silt that is found in the bottom of ponds.

3- go wading or swimming for it depending on the water depth and temperature.

4- if it has been there for very long it may need to left where it is at for it could very well be rusted up to a point of damaging the rifling and or the action not to mention the stock.

I have heard of it before and know of one occasion the hunter was able to swim down and recover it 12 to 15 feet of murky water, and it was in a very large lake.

What ever you choose remember the weapon can be replaced a human life can not.
So if you attempt to recover do so as safely as possible.

OOPS! (Hey, it happens...)

What you want is a "roofer's" magnet.

This is a large, strong bar magnet used to clean up nails lost in yards from the removal of an old roof. You can get one at larger hardware stores. Remove it's broom-type handle and attach a rope to the magnet. Cast it over the area where the firearm was lost, and drag the magnet slowly back towards you. When you hook-up with the gun, you'll feel it. Carefully drag it towards you slowly. If it becomes detached, cast again, and drag it some more, keeping track of about where it is. Eventually you'll get it close enough to grab.

Disassemble the firearm wash with clean water to remove mud and debris (Hey, it's wet already.) Thoroughly dry all pieces and spray with a water-displacer such as WD-40.
Then clean barrel, oil and reassemble the gun. If it's been sunk for very long, there may be rust damage, particularly to the springs. If it's more than slightly rusty, take it to a gunsmith to determine if it can be salvaged as a shooter, or if it has attained "wall-hanger" status.

Depends, depends what the bottom is like, how far in it is and all that good stuff.

If the pond is shallow and sandy then walk in, bend over, pick it up.

If it's muddy, stagnant and nasty then you probably want to use the metal detector method.

If it's just a bit muddy then it depends what size of gun, if it's a rifle I'd try walking around in it, depending how deep it is.

You really need to provide more info.

If it's a big nasty stagnant ten foot deep pond with turtles, snakes and leaches... I'd buy another gun!

You could start with a submersible metal detector, to locate the gun. Then you can attach a magnet to a rope and lower it down to the gun to grab onto it, then pull it up.

if you can eye it, try to get a pool cleaning net to reach in for it. otherwise you will have to snorkel in for it which is nasty in most cases in a pond so clean self, lotion self, and take thera-flu after the second option if you try it.

A small boat and an retrieving magnet.

Better get it quick before it starts to corrode and pit.
