Or do they? It occured to me today as I was scrubbing the grill for the bar-b-que.... why is this not coated with teflon? It seems it would be a lot easier, if it was a non-stick surface?

My Char-Broil has it, or something similar to Teflon. It's definitely non-stick coated.

I don't think teflon would stand up to the fire. Direct flame can affect cooking surfaces differently. Probably the same reason you should not heat a teflon pan with nothing in it, the teflon coating will break down faster.

Switch to cast iron, it cleans up easily. Teflon probably can not handle the high heat and I guess the gas it would emit is toxic.

I don't think Teflon is supposed to be heated to very high tempretures.
