Had my 2nd daughter 6 weeks ago- my 6 week appointment is tomorrow and i'm sitting here trying to decide what the heck i'm going to do for birth control- so i know at my appointment tomorrow-- Seriously thinking about Mirena- but does it hurt to have it put in?? Anyone who has used/tried it- do you recommend it? Why or why not? Would you recommend something else?
btw- i'm breastfeeding and I smoke- so those are playing huge factors into what birth control methods i can actually use.
thanks in advance for the help.

It is awesome!!! I've had mine for nearly 2 years. This is the only birth control I haven't gotten pregnant on. I have used the patch and Nuva ring and both resulted in unplanned pregnancies. It doesn't hurt to have it put in. If your ob/gyn has a Mirena in stock, he can insert it the day you go in for your check-up. That is, if you are at high risk for getting pregnant again...lol. Breastfeeding and smoking have no real impacts on this birth control.

I have given birth to 5 children. After my fifth which was 9lbs5oz, I decided to get the IUD. I had it put in in Dec of 06. So far it is going well. It didn't hurt at first but my cervix shifted and the doc had to re adjust. That kinda hurt. Not sure on the breastfeeding effects but the smoking part has no effects and the hormone level is low, so it doesn't alter your moods. Makes for messed up periods for awhile. Avoid the shot if at all possible. Good luck to you.

I had the iud put in about a year and a half ago. It hurt like hell when they put it in im not going to lie to you. It felt like a contraction almost without the tension in the stomach. I had some cramping for a day afterwards and after that I have pretty much felt normal. I do get some minor crampings during sex ONCE IN A BLUE MOON from it. My husband has also poked himself on the strings once or twice but other then these two things its been great.

specific, I even have Mirena and that i like it. I have been given it placed final November. No area impacts, and my sessions are lots lighter. I even have 2 babies, and a have faith that's the place i am going quit yet i'm not one hundred% specific, so i didn't wish a tubal ligation. the only element is you hae to have birthed one toddler with a view to be medically ok'd to get it.

I haven't tried it but a friend has. It is a bit painful to get put in and it can be felt during sex sometimes. Some people have bad cramps and irregular bleeding from it also. Have you looked at the implanon implant. It can be used while breast feeding and is effective straight away it lasts for 3 years and is put into you under arm. This is what i use and have never had trouble with it.

If you smoke you are taking a risk for blood clots. If I were you I would just us condoms for now ,till you can decide what type of birthcontrol you want to use.
