Yes it's safe. Pregnant women are often given steroids in pregnancy to mature the baby's lungs if drs suspect baby will be a preemie. Dr wouldn't Rx it for you if it wasn't safe.

Call and ask if there is a reason you "must" take the med.
Some of us remember:
fda.gov/cder/news/thalidomide.htm
was written after all those babies
were born without arms and legs...
just because of nausea, that the
moms gladly would have endured
had they known the prescriber
didn't know either.
Same with tetracycline (a common
antibiotic). Same with countless
other medications.
This, then, scared generations of
pregnant women, including scaring
me.
Not to scare you here,
but your concern is a good sign
you will be an excellent mother.
Call and ask if the risks of not taking
the medication outweigh the risks
of taking it "with stressful worries
about taking it."

Hello
You have a legitimate question and NO QUESTION is a bad question.
You don't have to be shy or guarded about asking for an explanation or reaffirmation by you health care provider.
Every one is an individual and there are many exceptions to all generalizations.
Yes , steroids (solumedrol dose pack?) are powerfull chemicals and compete with your and your babe's own production of steroids ( there are multiple kinds ).
They will certainly cause you to retain water, likely will increase your appetite and reduce resistance to infection et.al.
Just call and reaffirm his reccomendation.:.get a second opinion: or ask if a topical steroid will do ? ( tropicals are absorbed somewhat and have a "systemic effect". too )
The number one contribution to adverse outcomes are misunderstood instructions or the lack of an opportunity to ask questions of a health care provider..............Go for it!
Everyone deserves answers to their questions.

Your OB knows what is and isn't safe for you. Steroids like that one work by lowering your immune system response. This will help with the rash, which is you immune system reacting to the poison ivy oils.

Prednisone is a powerful steroidal drug, though not a hormone.
Keeping in mind I am not a doctor, 35 weeks into pregnancy seems like it should have raised cautions in your doctor. You are wise to be cautious. I wish I could help you more.

It's safe. It's corticosteroid used mostly for reducing severe inflammation in several inflammatory conditions (it appears that a lot of them are autoimmune related), or for allergic reactions that are particularly severe/not responding to less agressive treatment. There is no evidence that it or other corticosteroids are harmful to the fetus.

Think for a second. Your OB is an EXPERT in maternal/fetal health. Do you think that he/she would even CONSIDER a drug that might injure your baby?
If you're still worried, call and talk to him/her.

I would trust my MD before I would anyone on Yahoo. No discredit to the fabulous people of Y/A but, your MD wouldn't order it if it's not safe. (I'm guessing he/she knows your pregnant otherwise you wouldn't be seeing him/her, right?)
