I just made a dessert for myself of peaches, pineapple, and yogurt. I've never used artificial sweeteners before and didn't want extra calories with sweetness so I put in a packet of Sweet N' Low. I thought Sweet N' Low didn't have any calories but on the internet, it says it does. It also says it causes cancer. Is this true? I'm kind of worried now.

i believe the sweetener in swee n low is aspartame there has been controversy is it causes brain tumors, brain lesions, and lymphoma.

A study published in April 2006 sponsored by the National Cancer Institute involved 340,045 men and 226,945 women, ages 50 to 69, found no statistically significant link between aspartame consumption and leukemias, lymphomas or brain tumors

in high dosage it probably would be bad and everything is. right now it is at least concidered fairly safe but then again we might not know the long term affects

in my opinion tho if you are intaking anything man made theres a lil higher chance that it could be bad for you

it has shown to cause cancer in lab rats. as far as calories are concerned i have never heard that. i believe splenda and equal have also had the same testing and caused the same thing. read the sweet and low package it should state it on there.

the fruit wasnt enough of a sugar for you? fruit is sweet enough where it doesnt need an artificial sweetner in my opinion.

also if you are worried, use a little natural less processed sugar but sparingly.

I don't think a sugar substitute can cause cancer, if it did I don't think it would be on the market. You should try Equal, it is also a sugar substitute, but with NO calories, I hope this helps. P.S. Your dessert sounds really good by the way!!!

On the internet you'll no doubt find some sites that will even issue warnings about apples and oranges. Best thing to do is just go by what the FDA says about Saccharine and Aspartame (Equal)...used in moderation there's no problems with either, even in long-term usage.

There are certain subtances in many diet food that are carcinogens. They will cause cancer but you would have to eat massive amounts of them. I wouldnt worry about it
