There is a physical challenge, and you will sweat a lot, and you will sleep less than you are used to sleeping, and you will make friends with people that you never in your wildest dreams thought you would be friends with.
If you are motivated you will realize that you are not being persecuted, you are being molded into a team.
It's a simple challenge that makes you part of a group of life takers that is unique and has a heritage of honor and faithfulness.

No. What you see in movies is just drama to make the movie better. I'm in the US Navy. It's not as tough as the Marines or the Army but we do have the Air Force beat. I joined the Navy as a 23 year old in good physical shape. For me, boot camp was more boring than anything. There is a lot of "attention to deail" but that's about the hardest part. All of the armed forces are becoming more like corporations. All of the harassment is being frowned upon now. They now worry about hurting people's feelings and about your "wellness."
I'm in the Navy. I have a younger brother in the Air Force and I serve on a ship that transports marines so I have a very good understanding.

I laughed at Full Metal Jacket. I can't speak for Marines, but Army was tough. Nothing is impossible.

The real thing is WAY worse, my boyfriend was in the army & he was in basic at FLW, he is a mp (military police) & they had to watch a video of a guy shooting himself in the head so they could get used to the violence. he was so different when he came home, and he got mad at the smallest thing. the movies are lying, if people actually knew what happens in basic, they would be horrified & no one would join.

Oh hell no! And by the time you do join, it will be even easier than it is today. They keep on making it easier as time passes because people are complaining to their congressmen about being yelled at too much. Full Metal Jacket was a Vietnam movie, that was ages ago.

my boyfriend and my sister's are both in the marines and they both say that bootcamp is just like what it was in that movie. my boyfriend went through it in the mid 90s and my sister's boyfriend went through it in 2004, so i'd say its not getting any easier.
