If a man puts a gun to your wifes/childs/mothers head.. and says: "denounce jesus christ or i will shoot"
Do you commit blasphemy OR do you stand by jesus and HOPE the gun backfires or a bolt of lightening comes down and hits the gunman?

Now these answers are truly terrifying.
OF COURSE, there is the fact that its just a hypothetical so you can take the "high road" with ease.
I WOULD hope in fact, that if this ever happened, you would just denouce god and apologize later after the shooter left.
Dont you feel you have a duty to protect the divine spark of life that god put in you? Dont you think god can tell whats in your heart?
Whats the big deal about a bit of blasphemy to save your family?

If someone is going to that extreme (as in your hypothetical situation) - then I would have to assume this nut-case with the gun is going to kill me and my family anyway, so why should I deny Christ and damn my soul over something that is beyond my control?
If you're thinking I would have no concern - wrong. I'd be very concerned over the fate of my wife and kids or mother. Anyone in their right mind would be. If I truly believe everything Christ says - then I should do as he says..., and never deny Jesus before men.., and not for any reason.
If there was a way I could think of to respond to this nut-case gun wielding man, without denying Christ then I would use that avenue. I would exhaust every effort to thwart his plans.
I for one do not believe God or Jesus expects me to stand there and just watch without taking some action *IF* any option is open to me. Disarming the man to protect my family would be paramount. If I am toed up or have no way to stop him, I will not deny Jesus as son of God for anyone or anything. again - I would be assuming that such a nut-case would kill me and my family anyway. So why empower someone like that by giving them your last shred of dignity and hope?

To be honest. I will not denounce Jesus Christ for the sake of my family. If the man shoots, it his wrong doing (not mine) and my family will understand since they will be Christian. As well, I and my family will be rewarded in heaven. If that guy was aiming the gun at me, I will still won't denounce Jesus Christ.
For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.
Philippians 1:21
PS I say my family will be Christian is because I don't have a wife and kids at the moment. I know they will be Christian since I will only marry a Christian woman.

How would I know....if I sold out my savior...that this person would not then shoot me and my loved one anyway? And that would be my last words, that I denounce the one who died on a cross for my sins?
I would not brag that I would never deny Jesus (Peter did, and look what happened to him), but I would pray if the situation ever arose, no matter what the cost, I would not deny Him.

Great question. From what I understand, the Christian can denounce God, save his/her family, and then accept him back into their lives. Every Christian I've talked to have proved to me that It doesn't really matter what type of life you lead, so long as you accept Jesus as your Savior before you die.

I think you need to be creative and save your family. God's standard is what you believe in your heart, not necessarily what you had to say to avert a fatality. Who knows? Maybe you can convince the jerk with the gun to believe Jesus died for him too!

I AM an extremist. I love God with all of my heart, and with all of my soul, and with all of my strength. He would never put me in that situation, but if He did, I would trust Him completely because He is my Father.
