a refugee is someone who is escaping a harsh place like a place that's going through a war or a natural disaster. when they seek asylum they are saying that they cant return to their home and seek to stay there.

a refugee is a person fleeing degrading or inhumane traetment or a person whose life is in danger through membership of a particular political belief, race, religion, or social group in accordance with the United Nations Convention on the Status of Refugees to which most countries are signatories. It is the duty of every country to provide safe harbour to persons falling in this category however due to unprecedented criticism by newspapers and spin orchestrated by the press and western governments, the laws on refugee status have been eroded to a point of almost diabloical ridicule.

Australia publishes details on the number of asylum seekers annually from the Home Office/Office of Internal Affairs and these can be downloaded off their website. They also provide country information packs about the countries from which most refugees come.

a person seeking refuge, usually from a war or some other devastating event,

australia is closest to asia, if anything they get some sort of asian refugees, possibly tamils from indonesia, there are north korean refugees but not so far south, but vietnam laos thailand are all pretty stable today, there was a surprising coup attempt recently but i think it was short no mass exodus from thailand or anything, tourists weren't bothered either.

they could theoretically get afgahn or iraqi refugees as the mid east is called central asia by the rest of the world. (Australia once fit up near turkey in pangea)
