i've got individually worked on designing a desalination plant and there are various the explanation why they do no longer look to be favorite. the biggest subject is capability intake. so user-friendly because it sounds, maximum desalination vegetation use the tactic of evaporation of salt water (salt would not evaporate with the water). The water is switched over to clean-water steam this is cooled and gathered. think of how plenty water is used via a typical city. the optimum water lines into cities carry huge quantities of water that could ought to be evaporated. that is not any longer like that is not any longer achieveable, that is purely very high priced to construct, look after and function. yet another huge subject is sanitation. Lakes and wells are favorite because of the fact their feeder rivers may be controlled. whilst in comparison with the sea the place many factors nevertheless sell off extremely a lot of uncooked sewage. ought to you think of eating out of something mixed with water from Boston Harbour, Halifax Harbour or the Nile River? lower back, no longer that it can't be completed, it purely makes you savour how user-friendly a lake or a properly is in assessment.

The salt will build up in your body until it kills you if you drink only sea water. That is because your body needs more than a quart of water to wash the amount of salt contained in a quart of sea water from your body.

Humans can’t drink salt water because the kidneys can only make urine that is less salty than salt water. Therefore, to get rid of all the excess salt taken in by drinking salt water, you have to urinate more water than you drank, so you die of dehydration.

your body can't handle the salt.

if i were in that situation, i would try to build a crude type of still using evaporation. trap some water in a confined area and then put a sheet of plastic or something over it (clear is best, to let sunlight through). any water that evaporates and then condenses on the plastic is drinkable.

You will die if you do this. You'll quickly build up too much salt, which will alter your electrolyte balance - you'll essentially go crazy, and die.
