My experiences dictate that the Courts have no idea of what is a fair child support amount. I raised 3 daughters on $15.00 a week from their tired *** father, who was in the service the whole time. Now imagine raising three girls on $15.00 a week which didn't begin until my oldest was 12 and was sporadic in most cases and to this date the deadbeat thinks that he supported his daughters, all graduated high school, two have college degrees and one is now working on her masters, what the hell did $15.00 a week do, it didn't even cover the kotex bill each month. (A personal reflection.)

The fair price a parent usually get. Many factors go into deciding the amount. What the other parent makes and is he supporting another family. My husband has to pay support and believe me it's not much, but we also have four children together. The judge says he has to be able to support the other family to.But most judges grant 20% of the other parents wage to child support. As of fair amount that's hard to put a price on, depending on many factors.

A FAIR amount is easy to figure out. It would be half of the cost of the minimum amount needed for basic survival of the child. This is the standard that married couples are held to.

Any extras for optional items should still be optional since that would be an incentive for the parents to work together for their kids.

Todays system is set up for the custdodial parents have the attitude of "Pay me money then get away from MY kids". It's SO wrong.

It's generally figured as a percentage of the non-custodial parent's income, however that's flexible with the judge. A parent who makes say $200K a year would have a much higher child support payment than one who made only $50K a year, and possibly would pay a higher percentage as well.

Unfortunately or fortunately (depends on which way you want to look at it ) more often than not the court system makes that decision for us. They have a formula they use based on income. I have paid support myself and have had it paid to me. (Dependant on which parent my daughter wanted to live with ). I don't know if there is such a thing as a fair price.

well I get none for either child. I did for a little while for my daughter and I got lots... it is per his wage. I would think though that an ideal amount would be $400 for one child or $300 per child if there is more then one... that would make my life way easier financially!
