Yes and archaeology has been very successful in proving the existence of people in the Bible. There are written records with names; places mentioned have been unearthed. Its all out there for anyone willing to study.

Outside the NT and Gnostic Gospels, there's very little written about him. There are mentions of 'Christ' but that could refer to many other saviors of religions. There are a few mentions in a jewish historians (Josephus)accts but their authenticity is debated b/c a few have already been proven to be forgeries by others.

Re: others-I'm not sure. I've wondered that myself. The Dead Sea Scrolls verify that some of the stories iunj the OT were recorded a long time ago but I think they also have differences from what's in the Bible.
(BTW, I agree with the person who wrote about Gnostics-he was an example, not a literal person-I think Mary Magdalene represented the feminine)

There is no hard evidence that the Jesus of the bible actually existed. Many scholars believe that the biblical Jesus was a conglomeration of the characteristics of several men of the time

Take a trip to the museum in Israel and you'll find a concrete slab with the name of Pontias Pilate inscribed in it. It was discovered about 15 years ago in an amphitheater on the Mediterranian sea. Not proof enough??
Consider the fact that the Bible was written by 40 people of all walks of life. over a period of 400 years, yet their message is essentially the same.
Yes my friend, he lived then and lives today.-----Selah

Yes, there are several extra-biblical sources which record the the existence of Jesus, generally agreeing that he was a Jewish teacher who gained a group of followers and was crucified by the Romans. There are several people in the bible who are mentioned in other historical texts.

Sorry but I gurantee you it's going to spark debate. And yes since the Bible is real then Jesus and everyone in it was real. It's up to you what you believe...but unless the Bible is complete truth it's all a big pack of lies. It all comes down to faith.

Even if Jesus was real, the Jesus of the NT was a fictional overdone account, and therefore the jesus of the NT never existed, any more than the Davy Crockett of the tall tales existed..

You can read about the historicity of Jesus in any encyclopedia. Historians, according to their criteria, give his existence a 50/50 chance.

There is only one probable contemporary account of Jesus -- his arrest in Luke. The Josephus account is recent enough to suggest validity.

In all probability, a rabbi named Jesus was crucified and his followers continued (and modified) his teachings.

According to Roman historians, who were not Christians. Christ was crucified, as well as the OTHER apostles being martyred in Rome. Peter, Paul, and all the others. Do some research, there is plenty of evidence.
