Hi.
I'd like to build a built in bookshelf to the wall and am wondering do I use nails or glue?
If its glue what type of glue?

place braces (1" x 1") on the 3 walls surrounding where the bookshelves will be, or on the wall, placing the nails along the studs, use screws and plastic anchors if you are going to go into just the drywall. paint the braces to match the wall color. Square the the sides of the bookcase to the wall, screwing/nailing the sides to the edges of the braces.

place the shelves on the braces, starting at the bottom, working your way up, screwing the back on top into the braces, then anchoring from the outside of the supports on the left and right

otherwise, build the free standing bookcase, and place L brackets on the underside of the shelf, and secure it to the wall that way. it will hold, but is a lot less permanent

hope this helps

If you're refering to how the shelves are attached to the wall the best option would be using screws.
