um... if you are wanting to be clinically diagnosed as having ADHD the testing takes like... 8 hours or something? Maybe a little longer as well as some other evaluation stuff and then a psychiatrists will evaluate your results, which took about 2 weeks for me. Then your doctor will discuss medication with you if you are in fact ADHD.
Why are you 'mad' that you haven't been 'labeled' ADHD in the past? It doesn't take thaat long to be diagnosed, and since you have been home-schooled it is likely that you have been able to get one-on-one instruction to make sure you are learning what you should be. So if you are ADHD, get tested and then you can start taking medication, and it probably will not matter in the course of your life when you were diagnosed.

First of all, this 'label' that you speak of,,,,??????
And why prey-tel- are you mad about NOT being put on meds?
Just because they tell you that you are ADHD does NOT mean that you will get Ritalin, or really that you even NEED it.
-Some cases are mild enough, they can be treated with therapy programs,,,and also, Ritalin ISNT the only drug on the market now for ADHD.
And if I am not mistaken, there has actually been a lot of controversy over Ritalin,
there really are safer and more effective drugs out there that do the job without getting you high or zombifying you.
Further more, the last thing you want or need to do is have your health care provider rush into ANY diagnosis, just because you think you are, and they may have said you are, (but are still testing?)doesn't mean that will be the final conclusion. If you are to be put on meds Hun, they really need to know why they are putting you on them in the first place, ya know?
Don't be mad,,,be patient, this is a long drawn out process, but I don't feel Ritalin is the answer to all of your troubles.
Just remember to be patient,,,let the doctors do there job. Good luck to you.

You can be tested as early as 7 to my knowledge, probably earlier as well. And what's all this about tests to determine if your ADD/ADHD? I thought they only viewed your behavior in normal situations, not give you a brain scan/test...
As far as I am concerned about Ritalin, you can go throw that crud away. ADD/ADHD are true disorders but they don't need medication, or at they shouldn't, unless you have a severe case that greatly interferes with your daily lifestyle. Ritalin saps away your creativity in order to make it easier for you to focus and come up with less ideas on what something could be or how something could look that could be considered creative wastes of time.
So unless it's a really bad case, Ritalin and any other medication with the slightest side effects shouldn't even be considered. What would have happened if we put Einstein on Ritalin as a kid?

You need to read the side effects of Ritalin, better think about that before you jump in on that one. Most kids that get put on Ritalin don't like the way it makes them feel, and they stop taking it.
If you are trying to get this just for the use of the drug, some people taking it have committed suicide.
What ever you decide it takes time to go through a regiment of test to determine if you are ADD or ADHD this is not a race against time to get you on a drug that you think you need!

ADHD is some kind of a psychological crutch, if you ask me.
So is CTS (Carpal Tunnel Syndrome), most anything ends in disorder or syndrome is just as likely a grand bit of ado about something that up until now was considered perfectly normal.
Guess in this day and age even a bit of wrist soreness and forgetfulness (don't forget coupling it with hyperactivity, another normal thing for children) qualifies for a full blown disease with treatment options, medications, and what have you.
In the 70's and 80's it was hyperactivity, but too many folks caught on like I just did, so then later it became ADD but once again folks slowly but surely caught on... Dang, but check it out, who would remember that far back, we just combine these two issues and make one (Adhd) out of it, and money and insurance claims for all, works great.
Wait 'till you go over the edge, they have a name for that, too.
Around here they call it bipolar disorder (yup, there we go again), so hey you want a disease then get diagnosed with ADHD, it's easy and now you don't have to be healthy if you don't want to.
Hell yeah, now you can forget your homework, skip school by accident, and get away with all sorts of stuff and the funny part is people feel sorry for you because you have adhd and it's just terrible, is it not.

Why are people so keen to go on meds? Is it some sort of fad in America? The way people seem to talk about mental health issues so flippantly is disturbing.

You label yourself. You are what you are and what you want to be. You can be anything you want. Don't be mad cause only what matters is what you think.
