How many Jewish or Muslim groups are out their advocating teaching Intelligent design (creationalism)

How many non religious groups are advocating it?

Dosent this mean that these groups are basicly advocating that public schools teach their religious philosophy in a science class?

Fundamentalists believe the Bible is literally true. In order for the Bible to be literally true, the human race, among other features of the universe, must have been directly created by God. So of course Christian fundamentalists will advocate the teaching of "Intelligent Design" - they believe it to be true, and do not wish to have their children misled.

"Intelligent Design" is not a scientific theory, but merely creationism dressed in the robes of a pseudoscience. As that is clear to most thinking people who are not predisposed by their faith to believe in it, few others than fundamentalist Christians wish to have it taught in their schools, as they too do not wish to have their children misled.

As fundamentalist Christians must believe that Creationism/Intelligent Design is true, they are merely asking to have the truth taught in public schools - not, as they see it, their religious philosophy.

But of course you knew all that, and were merely stirring an already bubbling pot of acrimonious controversy. Why?

there are Jews and catholics and even agnostics. Go figure. David Berlinski writes for them and his only belief is to have fun. But those who don't like it would like to create that impression. And I don't deny that many religious people are interested. i have noticed most the critics in here have never read any of their material for themselves but rather rely on caricatures supplied by others outside. I suggest everyone read Darwin's Black Box so you can at least get an idea what you are disagreeing with. J.P. Again your logic disappoints me.Because you disagree with them these people with all their credentials are stupid. Then you should be debating them and offering your advanced reasoning. I do find it amusing that you claim to have found errors on every page. I am assuming then that you are a biochemist? Calling people stupid may work in here but that kind of name calling is unscholarly and beneath you. .And obviously enough people on both sides of the issue see it as important enough that they continue to have debates. I suggest you try reading some of William Demski's books and Stephen Meyer's. here's another good book book althoughit isn't specificaly about ID. The Icons of Evolution. By Jonathan Wells. This book was ciritcized by Eugene Scott although she admitted it was technically correct. Or evolution a theory in crisis by agnostic Michael Denton. Husker I have yet to hearan intelligent design advocate quote the bible. It is a scientific theory that has relgious implications. The same way the big bang theory is a scientific theory that has relgious implications. People need to be able to separate a theory from its implications just as they do with the big bang which is no less an acceptable theory. In fact all theories about the origin of life carry philisophical and theological implications. Should that barr people from investigating?

For notyou311

Your words: Intelligent design is a phony science. Only the brainless believe it.

Francis Collins firmly believes in Intellegent Design. Who is he? The Chairman of the "Human Genome Project". Hardly somebody I would call brainless

Anthony Flew firmly believes in I D. Who is he? Once the Richard Dawkins of the last generation. A diehard atheist. At 81 he realized that the intrcacies of the cell MUST have been designed. Was he brainy when he was an atheist and brainless now?

I could go on but remember much smarter minds than yours believe in I D

Have you read the Quran or spoken to a Muslim or a Jewish person. For more on what Muslims believe about creation try the link, I think you will be surprised because it sounds an awful lot like intelligent design.

This question is obviously being asked by someone who doesn't understand the debate....

Jew's teach intelligent design in their school, as well as muslims.

Jews and muslims in America are too small a minority to make a significant difference in the debate.

Intelligent design, as a discussion in America is basically a Christian concept. The public school system as described by liberals is there to give a broad understanding of all beliefs and systems.... except those of the Christian. Which in and of itself is interesting considering that 70% of all Americans claim to be Christian.

Try to be a little more informed before offering questions. It's difficult to take you seriously otherwise.

{edit}... no I don't feel stupid because it's true. Now don't you feel stupid... wow... I can't believe that you have to resort to name calling and insults. You are truly not skilled in the art of debate. Try to get some facts before arguing. Again.... it's hard to take you seriously.

I'm not normally this blunt... but:

Because they're idiots.

And it's not "basically only," it literally IS "only."

-------------

*nods* True. I suppose the Raelians do believe in intelligent design.

Objection on 'basically only' withdrawn.

------------

They tend to be so poorly represented everyone forgets them. I'm deeply impressed with myself for having thought of them as a counter to my own objection. ;) Hey, we can't be humble all the time. *g*

But I bet if it was a Raelian I.D. text book in school, the fundie christians would throw a fit... maybe someone should try that...

-----------

Edward J:

I've read Darwin's Black Box, AnswersInGenesis, and CARM (Dr Dino is so laughable even many fundamentalist movements laugh at him, so I've skipped his crap).

They were all full of garbage. There was not a single page in/on any of them on which I could find no scientific error of something OUTSIDE evolution... and the error was always used to try to prove evolution wrong.

Would you try to use 1+1=3 to prove that 4/2=2?

Those pushing ID either don’t realize how foolish they are, or they don’t care. I will fight it if they try to introduce it into my county and I feel certain that many rational Christians will join me.

ID makes a mockery of both faith and science.
