Many people in the American culture find it a little awkward to make direct eye contact with a stranger. This could be the reason but I do not know you so i couldn't say. Personally, I do the same thing if I catch a stranger's eye.

Well, the question you should be asking yourself is: HOW are you looking at these girls? I have a friend who asked me the same question, basically & it was because when he "looked" at girls he OGGLED them up & down like a cut of meat hanging in a butcher shop! Might want to ask your friends, the one's who know you best! It might just be that you're a striking-looking fellow & you make the gurlies blush, but that could be only one of many reasons you're spooking the campus co-eds! Ask your friends, especially the girls; they would notice something like that. Best of luck!

Well you are either too good looking or you don't smile enough so you might look intimidating. Have you tried smiling at them to see if they smile back? Smiling is a universal language so to speak. Smiling seems to get people some very interesting reactions. Try it. If you are good looking, then there isn't much you can do since they are probably shy about a cute guy looking at them. Still try smiling at them. It might do wonders.

I've seen you before! you're the guy on the campus who has the mole the size of Conneticut stuck to your lip. and you're hair is always braided and you tend to talk to yourself and every once in a while you'll get in a staple fight with yourself. WHO WOULDN'T BE NERVOUS AROUND YOU! I just think about the way you wear that same green shirt with the fish on it everyday and it makes me cringe... good luck with the ladies.

Guy,
Lose the trench-coat, dark glasses, and ski-mask.
I'd also stop carrying the shotgun and cam-corder around, and telling girls that you're doing a "senior project" that involves a Charles Manson project....

Do you carry spears? Are you wearing any clothes? Do you have hair growing on your neck and back? Have you taken a bath in less than 2 years?
Dude, you're going to have to give more detail.

Well, I dont know. Assuming that you are normal, maybe they dig you. Have you ever tried speaking to one of them? Try that and see what the reaction is.

Probably because you're good-looking. Sheez, if a hot guy caught me looking at him, I'd probably run.
