Ok, I'm in high school and I got this thing in the mail from "Who's Who Among American High School Students" and it says something about me being nomiated to be honored by having a biography of acheivments published with anyone else receiving this award in a book.
It also has a section to order the book, it has prices and details.
I wanna make sure it's not a scam or anything, it doesn't look like one but you never know....
So if anyone here is a high school teacher or student or even member of that organization who does know it's not a scam and it's the real deal, please let me know and please please please don't lie about it.
Thanks!!

one more thing, does anyone know whether my high school gets a copy of the book if I don't buy one?

It's a legitimate organization that will publish your bio for free, then turn around and try to sell the book it's in to your parents. You also never know who else will have access to the information you gave them.

It's a legitimate "honor," since you probably qualified with a decent PSAT or SAT score to have been invited in the first place. But, it's nothing that will impress a scholarship selection committee, or a college admissions official.

I tell my students, it won't hurt them, but it's doubtful that it will help them achieve a special college or scholarship.

I never tell parents how to spend their money, so if your parents want to pay $75 for the book to see your name in it, I would tell them that was up to them.

If you really want to impress a college however, forget this organization and get involved with a volunteer effort that you believe in. Colleges love to see students demonstrate leadership with meaningful volunteer work, especially if it's related to their major.

Good luck!

I read your question and I indeed have an answer. If the organization you are speaking of is "Who's Who Among American High School Students", then I would strongly suggest that you follow through with this great honor that has been given to you. I am a 2003 graduate of Pisgah High School in Canton, NC and I was honored in this very same way. What this means is that you are being honored for your high achievement thus far in you scholastic career, and furthermore it is a national publication, thus a national honor, that will be recognized by all colleges in the U.S. which will definitely benefit you in your education continuum. So my friend this is no scam and I assure you that I am honest in my response, so go for it! Congratulations on your honor and I will be more than happy to answer any other questions that you may have on this subject.

God Bless,

YES! Consider your self pretty damn special. My ex-girlfriend is in there & it's quite the honor. Congrats to a pretty smart guy! By the way, either way you will be in the book. Public libraries usually have copies of them & I'm sure you can buy a copy later if you so choose at a higher or lower cost I have no idea. It is for real. My son was in it. The book is collecting dust on the shelf and it cost a lot of money. Passed on buying it this year for my daughter. She would rather, I save the money for some of her college expenses coming up. It is a nice book, but you'll be the only one that you'll know in this big book.

Yup. It's true. There's Who's Who Among science, business, educators, engineers to mention a few. I wouldn't be surprise if there was a Who's Who Among nose pickers.
