Yup. Sodas, beer, mixed drinks, etc. are all high in calories. Lots of calories that aren't burned off by excercise get stored as fat.

Probably, the occasional beer, soda, mixed won't hurt, but consuming a lot of these frequently will get you fat if you aren't working them off.

Soda has a lot of sugar, and if you drink a lot of it you will be consuming more calories than you burn. Therefore, you will gain weight and get fat. As far as the pot belly, I'm not sure, but the carbonation can make your stomach stick out farther than it normally does.

I had been getting a bit heavy and developing a pot belly. I was drinking a lot of soda. Probably two liters a day. I quit and lost a bit of that belly! Water instead. Cheaper too!! Good luck.

1)an average can of soda has 140 calories per soda(some more)
2)one pound of fat is 3000-3500cals extra calories

lets say you have one soda per meal, so 3 per day that would be 420 calories per day, so after one week that is 2940calories. if you are already getting the calories you need and those sodas are extra calories then that is one pound of fat in one week.

-a large coke at a fast food place is 310cals
-a 2 liter soda is 800+cals
-there is a correlation of drinking sodas and obesity, there is even a correlation of drinking diet sodas and weight gain
-drinking soda can help lead to type 2 diabetes
-the acidicity in sodas help lead to tooth decay

I read in Cosmo that if you drink one full calorie soda a day you'll gain 15lbs every year. I guess that's if you are consuming the proper amount of calories for your body weight and then having a full calorie soda on top of all those calories!
I had a friend who stopped drink soda and he lost a lot of weight, but I stopped drinking soda for about 4 months and didn't lose one pound.... hmph!

Yes. three things....One is the calories from the sugar and the other is the carbonation., the third is sodas can cause kidney stones if you consume too many...try lime juice water, with a dab....just a dab of sugar and a pinch of salt for a great tasting thirst quencher...good luck.....remember sweet drinks can also make you thirstier so you may drink more than you need

They are empty calories coupled with a poor diet means an excess of calories leading to an increase in fat. Also constantly drinking sodas causes insulin spikes which in turn leads to increase in fat storage due to a jump in insulin. Hence why a majority of diabetic people are overweight due to constant insulin spikes in there diets through sugary and highly processed foods.
