Try the system restore:
Go To:
start
programs
accessories
systems tools
system restore
This process is completely reversable. And does not remove your personal files. Just go back one checkpoint at a time until your puter is working good again. You may need to reinstall some programs but this is the easiest and safest way I have found to correct most problems.

If you know anything about registry or have a cleaner you can do a search for anything related to the program, delete that, then clean your registry. But only, I repeat only do this if you know what you are doing. Otherwise use the system restore. Or you could copy everything you want to keep onto disks, then completely reinstall your O.S. again. Wait for a month or so before putting all the other stuff back on then your anti-virus software will be more apt to recognize problems as it will be updated a month beyond the viruses. You may also want to just check the settings of the program in question to see if it is on automatically or some such behavior.
