you really should edit your question to make it more understood. Lawful carry can be concealed or wearing it in plain sight if your state allows carrying where it is seen. Of course you need a permit for concealed and many states do not allow this. Even if you have a concealed permit if you left it at home and are discovered concealing it you are charged as if you did not have a permit and it does not good to bring the permit the next day. Concealed permits depending on the state you live in allow you go walk into a gun shop, buy a handgun and walk out in the same day

In some states it really means the same thing. You are lawfully carrying if you have a concealed carry permit.
In some states you can have a gun in your vehicle without having a concealed carry permit. That would be a "lawful carry".

In Texas you have lawful open carry (police officers and uniformed on-duty armed security guard, or Border Patrol Officers {not classified as 'Texas Peace Officers'}) and licensed concealed carry only. If you are not a Texas Peace Officer, etc., then to be legal you have to have a concealed carry license and MUST carry concealed (traveler's ruling only exception and that tends to be a case-by-case scenario). NOTE: Even travelers should not open carry.
