Almost every year, as soon as Spring season starts, I develop this dry cough that later leads to difficulty in breathing. This would last the entire season, and cough medicines do not help much. Why is this? Is this allergies? Because I do not have the normal allergy symptoms like runny nose, or watery eyes. And besides, I am in the city now, so there is absolutely no pollen. Why do I still have this cough?

All my life my allergies haven taken the form of coughs. No watery eyes, no runny nose, no sneezes. It just means most of the congestion drips to our throats rather than making it up to the eyes, nose, and, even, ears.

There is still plenty of pollen in the city. Grasses and trees make pollen, too. There's also more dust and it tends to be wetter during the spring which elevates the mold count.

I use claritin and it usually is enough. In spring, though, I have to add a decongestant because there are so many more allergens.

Your doc can also make some suggestions.

Good luck.

It could be allergies or it could be from the change in weather causing a change in humidity in the air. You don't have to have the itchy eyes or runny nose to have allergies nor do you have to be in the country. Pollen isn't the only thing in spring that causes allergies.

It could be from the temperature or weather or also from a type of plant that only releases pollen you are allergic to in the spring.

Allergies, or maybe your body just naturally gets this cough every year because our immune system is always lower at this time of year.
