There are a couple of answers one can give keeping in mind that knowing God's intentions is like an earthworm contemplating supersonic flight. So if this sounds stupid it very likely is.

The most direct answer is that from God's eye view life and death are not nearly so cataclysmic as they are to us. Living people are spirits on this earth, dead people are spirits in the hereafter (avoiding completely the heaven-hell thing).

So, God had a plan. He was going to bring about a special people and prepare a special community into which salvation would enter the world. Through that salvation the "spirits in the hereafter" as well as those here would have the gates of heaven opened to them.

So, for the good of all, including those that were drowned, God worked his plan over thousands of years. Some folks were taken into the hereafter so that the place on earth for the salvation would be prepared.

Dying is a very scary thing to those of us that are alive, even the most born-again of us. To God it is like delivering a baby. The baby thinks leaving the womb is horrible, torture, the end of everything. To God it is the completion of a phase and the beginning of "real life".

Well, why don't you look up Genesis 6-8 yourself and see?

Some interpret it as sadistic. That's understandable.

But let's consider this. Noah lived in an age where there was great evil. It was a time where men mixed around with fallen angels in every sense of the word (Ever wonder whether Hercules and all such legends could be true? And if so, as powerful and appealing as they are, would you like to have that kind of lifestyle around you or passed on to your children? I mean incest, rape, sodomy, killings over petty matters?). It was an age where crime was probably rampant and because no proper laws were established, people basically did whatever they pleased.

What about the innocent children? That question bugged me for ages. Dr. James Dobson did a study on violent young criminals and found that even hardened criminals in jail are horrified of them. Because these kids grew up in a morally bankrupt and harsh environment, their development was permanently stunted. Compassion and love meant nothing to them because they weren't shown it and it was replaced by adrenaline and survival instinct.

I can't speak for God but my view is that God probably didn't want to do it but I think if we were there, we would be plenty sick of what was going on too. I mean, even now, there are some times we're just sick of the world.
He also knew that if this was allowed to continue, the world wouldn't last as long.

Let's be fair though.

According to the biblical account, Noah received the warning 120 years before the actual event. And 2 Peter 2:5 mentions Noah being a preacher of righteousness, meaning that he probably warned everyone he could of the coming catastrophe. No one heeded. No one begged God to change His mind. No one asked to tag along. I may be idealistic but I'd like to think that like with Jonah and Nineveh, if the people heeded the warning, the outcome may not have been the way it was.

. i am going to easily address your first mistake.. with regards to "HELL". What do imagine Hell extremely is? previous testomony (Hebrew) - Sheol is only the grave. New testomony (Greek) - Hades is only the grave. Hell is only the grave. in case you've been taught that that's an eternal burning fireplace, stoked by devil, please comprehend that the Bible says at Revelation 20:10, Revelation 20:13, 14, and Revelation 21:8 that Hades and devil are both destroyed. Verse 8 says that the "Lake of fireplace" is death. It says that each one LIARS pass there. devil IS a liar. John 8:40 4 devil DIES. The Bible says so ! No devil+No Hades, potential there is not any eternal burning hellfire. ......................................... the position ARE THE lifeless? Genesis 3:19 Psalms 146:4 Ecclesiastes 3:19,20 Ecclesiastes 9:5,6,10 ......................................... THEN WHAT? Revelation 20:13,14 Revelation 21:a million ......................................... AFTER THAT? Psalms 37:9,eleven,29. Proverbs 2:21,22 Proverbs 10:29,30. Matthew 6:9,10. Matthew 5:3 ... or Matthew 5:5. .........................................

The Bible says that God warned Noah to get ready . He warned others and they laughed at him . God has been warning us again by telling us to be ready and take notice of what is to come. The flood thing was given to cleanse the world. You think it needs cleaning again ?

Genesis 6:5-6 "Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And the Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart."

The world was so immersed in sin that he wanted to start over almost completely, so he wiped out most of the life on earth, and through the few that he saved, the earth renewed itself. Read those Biblical passages, and you will understand it better.

Noah had the flood.
We had Katrina.
God only writes the code up to
the point where water shows up.
After that, species are on their own.

Put your best efforts forward, and
God's blessings will find you.
