Hello, this is a very bad situation for your boyfriend i feel really sorry for him and you as well. Well you could try to give him a good massage at home about 30 minutes or an hour and tell him if his back still hurts. Take him to the doctor. If i were there it would of be my pleasure to help you and your boyfriend with your problems i mean that by my heart good luck!!!

I hope that your boyfriend has been trained to use proper lifting techniques. Taking ibuprofen every 6 hours may help relieve his pain. It does sound like he needs to be seen by a doctor... he could have ruptured a disk or something. Maybe there is a company doctor? This is an on the job injury. If this company is in California, it has obligations to him. If nothing can be done get him out of that job for his back's sake.

It depends on if it's muscle pain of bone pain. My husband had the same problems, he finally had to go to the chiropractor. The first thing we thought to do was heat, but the chiropractor said that was wrong, you should try cold.
Heat makes muscles tighten more, and ice makes them loosen.
If it is in the bone it is possible that he has pinched a nerve, in this case don't message it that will only make it worse.
The best thing to do is have him lay on a table or floor and you get down by his side, gently push on both sides of his back bone until you feel a crack. It is possible to adjust him if you are careful. Just go from the top of his back to the bottom.

You can try a variety of things.
*Heating pads (they help loosen muscle not "tighten" muscle.
*Boiling water with clean river rocks in the pan (be careful!) to put on your boyfriends back in the pain area
*Try Bayer or IBProfin for joint and muscle pain
*If he is lifting a lot of weight at work, you should have him invest in one of those handy belts that assist you when lifting weight of any sort. They are great because they support your back
*Try yoga videos. They help strengthen your back and they are relaxing. They even have videos you can buy that are jjust for your back.
*Go to the chiropractor. I had bad back pain, then I went to the chiropractor. I don't recomend giving your boyfriend your own chiropractic stunts. It isn't safe!
Good luck with your boyfriend's back pain,

Rather than using ice, I suggest heat treatment. Heat up the heat pad in boiling water and place them on his back. Use a towel if you cannot find heat pad.
You can also use plaster for rheumatic pain. To me, this heals the fast if it is due muscle pain.

hot pads...if he can stretching of lower back which is done in lying position...legs bent, putting a pad /little mattress or pillow under the arch of the back...do it by pressing the pad downward or simply straightening the arch of the back. Do it progressively by embracing one knee close to the chest as you straigthen the arch of the back.

stop carrying heavy weights, lift with the legs if he has to.
stretching will helpeease the pain. nothing jerky or sudden either.
but usually the less the better when it comes to back pain.
also heat will help eg bath or heat packs etc

My dad had his disk dislocated in his back 3 years ago. And ever since his surgery his back still hurts from time to time. Tell your boyfriend to use a buckwheat pillow to sleep on everynight. It really helps your neck and back.

Try doing some exercises on a yoga ball. My husband broke his back when he was younger and when he does the stretches it really strengthens his back so it doesn't hurt and so it is harder to re-injure.
They are not very expensive
