But they do starve, this is an absolutely last resort to lose weight. The problem is that along with all the fat loss, they lose a tonne of muscle, which is not healthy. If someone can lose the weight by changing their lifestyle this is a much better option to gastric bypass surgery.

Depending on the operative procedure, with gastric bypass surgery, the receptors responsible for making you feel full aren't there any more.
