the doctor told her it was non habit forming...also she had been taking non prescribed xanax for 4 years (a high dosage) and they gave her a pill clomidin or something to ween her off and told her to start taking paxil every night.

Hi,
Paxill is the same type of drug as Lexapro, prozac, zoloft and cymbalta. It is a serotonin re-uptake inhibitor. It helps the body make use of serotonin, which is what helps us with stress and other things.
The side effects I've had from Zoloft include:
I used to be very anxious about my house; the cleanliness of it - now I'm much more relaxed (lazy!) but my husband doesn't mind because he likes my personality much better on Zoloft than off it
I don't really have much sex-drive anymore; but hey, I've been married 25 years, so that might have something to do with it too.
Other than that, I can't think of any other negative things about it. I sleep better, less anxious, less paranoid at work (thinking people might be talking about me or conspiring against me), I'm less of a control-freak, I'm overall much more laid-back, happier, the list goes on...
Another side effect...if your sister decides to wean herself off of it, she should do it very, very slowly. Reduce by 25 mg every two weeks...
Hope this helps...

I am familiar with the drug, Paxil. It has been used widely as an antidepressant medication as well as for anxiety. Your sister should feel a lot better on this drug. Just don't consume alcoholic beverages while taking this medication. Also, it usually takes about two weeks for the maximum benefit of the drug to take effect. There are some "law firms" that are warning against taking this drug if you are pregnant. If the doctor prescribed it, your sister should do well, maybe even experience a little loss of appetite. Paxil has also been known to reduce sexual libido. Those are the only side effects I experienced from taking them myself. Some may have these side effects while other may not. Just read the accompanying insert in the bottle. If there is not one, ask the pharmacist for one. I have no need to take them any longer but they worked great when I needed them.
Best wishes.

I am no doctor, or nurse. I am a person suffering from depression, yet I have the DSM. The Diagnostical Statistical Manual which pharmacists and doctors use to double check up on meds. :) Now Paxil is made by SmithKline Beecham. (The pharmacautical company.) It is classed as an anti-depressant, anti-obsessional, anti-panic agent. It is a Selective Seretonin Reuptake Inhibitor, stuff that attaches itself to certain brain cells and helps the function. There are side effects, yet they are minimal at best and you may ask your pharmacist, doctor or your sister I mean to do so, and that should resolve your question. :)

Paxil is an SSRI used for many different psychiatric symptoms. PTSD, anxiety, social phobia and depression, just to name a few. People are jumping the anti-Paxil bandwagon lately, primarily based on second hand information. All of these drugs can have nasty side-effects. Paxil is a notoriously hard drug to get off of, primarily due to its short half life. However, it is a miracle drug for certain patients. It is important to remember that we all respond differently to drugs. It may work great for you sister. Two very common side effects are somnolence and delayed orgasm.

Paxil is one of those medications that may actually cause you to commit suicide. Go read up on it on the internet, there are many documented cases of teens who used Paxil and ended up commiting suicide. Also, it can lead to more depression. I was taking it for a while but didn't like it so I stopped. Does you sister really need the meds? When it comes to anti depressents it can get quite addicting.

Paxil is supposed to help with anxiety and depression It boosts the sertonin levels. I have been on this medication for 10 Years. Please email me. I think your sister should email me so I can let her know what to expect. Paxil doesnt work for me anymore and now I am one of the many millions who are stuck on it due to the bad withdrawals.
