I don't want the bells and whistles and great screen, I just want to know what is best for the sound quality, and a decent price would be good too. Also one that has great control over the system, thanks!

PS. to be used with amps, not powering with the head unit.

What's your price range? Alpine in my opinion ahs the best head units for any budget. This years models range from the very basic to built in EQs, Crossovers and Time correction. Base models have sound enhancers and basic bass/treble controls. They do not waste money on extremely fancy displays making them pretty affordable. This years top model runs at about $300 and goes down from there.

Alpine cda 9855 go to ebay. Also coming this summer from Alpine is the Imprint cda 9887.

Kenwood Excelon. although no headunit is all that great by itself. if you want better SQ, your going to want to get a amp too.

Clarion head units are fantastic for this purpose - their distortion levels are virtually nonexistent.

audiopipe APM - 703 , APC - 900
not very pretty but have nice features like 4v outputs,etc;
but it doesn't have built in eq's and all that jive.
