my room is very very small. we have a guest room but no one sleeps there, usually our guests sleep on the couch cuz they like that better. since the two rooms are right next to each other and both are very very small, i asked my dad if we could knock down the wall in between them. unfortunately he said they were something like a bracer wall i don't remember what he called them. but it's like if you take it out then it will weaken the structure of the whole house. i feel really really compressed in my room and i can hardly breathe. and i'm not even claustrophobic! goodness gracious anybody have some advice on how to fix this problem?

If the wall is structural, it makes the job harder but not impossible. A temporary support wall would need to be constructed a placed parallel to the existing wall. The old wall could have a large opening like an oversized doorway cit into it. The opening then would have to be framed and a large header installed at the top for support. The size of the opening and wall will determine the thickness of the header and the framing. Consult a pro about that. After the opening is framed, the temporary wall can be removed.

If it's a load bearing wall then you may be able to cut an opening in the wall without taking the whole thing down, check with a contractor to see if it can be done safely, or you can add mirrors to one of the walls to give the feeling of a larger room.

You cannot dismantle a load bearing wall. All you can perhaps do is to cut open a 84"x30" hole in the wall and
and thus can have access to this room.

it's called a bearing wall. and if, in fact it is a bearing wall, taking it out without adding some sort of replacement structure will weaken whatever is above it.

he probally called it a load bearing wall. you could take out most of the wall. just leave some of it up for suport. you may even see about putting up a header with suport poles on the ends.
